How did I start vaulting? well...
I go to a private school that's k-12 and I made the h.s. varsity soccer team in 8th grade, but since the season didn't start until the next winter (I live in Florida, so it's always hot here) I decided to run track. Track was a silly sport in my mind , I figured if you were any kind of real athlete that you would play soccer/basketball or some other real sport. Nonetheless, I decided to do it in order to keep my spot on varsity soccer. The track team at my school was good, so most of the events had already been filled out with veterans as far as state was concerned. I couldn't have made it to state in any sprint/jump, I was just too young. So, I had settled on the idea that pole vault would be my best shot at getting good at something and quick. Turned out, I was right, and it's seems to be working for me!
8th grade
1st @ districts
5th after a jump-off @ regionals where of course top 4 go to state.
Freshman year:
1st @ districts
2nd @ regionals
seeded 3rd for state where I promptly no-heighted
Sophmore year:
1st @ districts
1st @ regionals (i beat all the guys there too! yay for me!)
1st @ state WOO HOO!
So now, it's my junior year and I'm a defending state champ and captain of a team in a sport that I used to think was only for the athletes who couldn't cut it at those "real sports" lol.
I keep vaulting becuase it's objective. If you work harder than someone, more than likely you'll jump higher than them. If you didn't clear a bar, then you can't ever blame the officials for it. I also like it cause you can compare yourself to other vaulters just by saying your PR's.

Well how did i start pole vaulting.
One day after pactice i walked in side and saw the vaulters practicing. And thought to my self "That has got to be so much FUN!" I walked in introduced myself to the coach and was out vaulting the next day. And i was right it is fun.
And what drives me to go out there everyday and practice? My natural competive nature. I love going out there and trying to beat my old PR and beating my teamate and other guys in my conference.

Go Big Or Go Home
I was going to do event tryouts in the 7th grade also. But I didn't tryout, simply because I had detention on the two days for event tryouts. I was essentially not a part of any event group, so therefore not really on the team. Luckily spring break came up, and my friend who was a pole vaulter said he had practice. Never had seen pv before so I watched, and the coach told me to try it, and I jumped a whopping 6' on my first day. Ah I miss those days.

I know which one we are. Vault High, Vault Safe!

The thing that got me started in pole vault in the 8th grade was that someone dared me to do it. There was a line of about 10 girls trying it and getting nowhere and I was doing a sprinting workout. My friend told me there'd be no way I'd ever make it and on my first try I made 6'. After that I was hooked!!!!!

I started because I don't really like team sports. People who dont really know what their talking about and telling me how to do something makes me mad. And thats how it always is in team sports. And then when I was in 9th grade we were just starting track at my school and I knew that all I wanted to do was vault.
