Really get that jump up. and get off your take off foot.It looks like your grip might be a little close, just for bending purposes. Maybe widen it a bit and then just jump it up and keep your left arm straight. One way too keep it straight, is to look at your left hand. after the plant look at your left hand and just press it up and in, it should bend a lot easier and your hips should sink in.

Thats just what i am thinking when i see it within 15 secs.

so you mean to look at my bottom, right hand

Yeah, if you see your right hand when you jump, it makes it a heck of a lot easier to jump. Watch any elite vaulter, there eyes are up and watching their hand.
Just you wait...

Definitely need to get the steps part of your vault down. Starting at 2 steps is imparitive. Once that is done and your take off is good, then you can start doing these http://www.bubbapv.com/Pages/drill.htm then you'll start getting verticle inverted and extended. But don't do these till you get the correct take off down and steps down EVERYTIME. A very good overview of steps and getting them down is covered on this forum at http://www.polevaultpower.com/forum/vie ... php?t=4643 The key thing is to understand "WHY" this stuff that Dave writes about is important and makes a mental picture in your mind of what he's talking about. By your video it looks like because of your steps and your take off point you aren't giving your self any opportunity to get in that inverted position. Get the steps, get inverted, go high! Good luck and keep it safe. Later.............Mike

chr15

looks like your grip is just a little high for your run and plant technique.

i would suggest lowering your grip a little, 11'/10-6, put a coaches check mark at 38/39 feet and work on EVERYTHING these guys said... serious-- then start raising you grip as you improve.

you can jump 10/10-6 pretty quick, on the 1240, with a 11-6 grip and 38 foot "MID" by just cleaning up your run/plant technique..

great clips

K. Here are some new clips. I didn't completely work on everything everybody told me to because I only had literally a half hour to vault at this practice (which needless to say pissed me off, but what are you going to do). I mainly worked on my severe under-step. I REALLY pushed back my steps from the initial 6 step that I took.. at least a good 5 shoes or so. It measured out to be about 77 feet from a 6 step. Keep in mind I use the LEFTEE grip! So my top hand is my LEFT hand when responding to these!

Image
5th stride, starting to lower pole (I realize it's not completely perpendicular, need to lower it faster perhaps).

Image
Beginning to plant.. something doesn't look right here but I can't put my finger on it.

Image
I think the positioning of my foot is good here, as well as the location of my bottom / right arm. My top / left arm, however, is a bit bent.

Image
Take off. Getting way too close to the pole and failing to keep perpendicular... How do I stop this? Do I need to press out with my bottom / right arm more?

Image
Hips again getting too close to the pole, and my bottom arm is practically behind me.

Image
Trying to invert, but I don't think it's possible because of the former location of my hips.

Image
Pole is beginning to uncoil, and I'm coming up a bit.

Image
Failure to invert causing me to swing towards the mats.

Image
And it's downhill from there.

Well, I tried to give myself a little self-critique, but was wondering what everyone else had to think about it, as always. :P

You know you are in trouble when your friends turn their backs when you begin to vault! See your first photo!

Your fundamental problem is that you run like a duck - ie with your tail dragging along the ground. Until you run taller - especially in the last six steps - there is little you can do to really improve -although you do not do a bad job of getting into the air at take off from a very bad position.

But because you are so far under -and the pole hardly bends -you are always going to go past it early and cannot do much about improving things from that point on. Learn how to do 2o/20s and get a sprints coach to show you some of the speed dynamics drills - live or on video.

"The pole vault begins with the first step". Now who said that?
Its what you learn after you know it all that counts. John Wooden
