Movie "Solarbabies" 1986 Pole Vaulter!!

Unread postby skyshark177 » Wed Sep 05, 2007 3:51 pm

If you've seen the movie before you'll know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, I grew up a little in the 80's and I used to love this movie when I was a kid.
Before I even knew what pole vaulting was I saw this movie and just recently I watched it again and noticed that there is a pole vaulting scene in it.
One of the main characters vaults over a huge fence while on roller skates, well the stunt man doesn't actually have skates on while vaulting, but that's the illusion.

My question is, Who was the stunt man that performed this vault?

Does anyone know?

I definitely have not seen it, but my guess would be Anthony Curran as he did a lot of that stuff in the 80s.

I'll shoot him an email and see :)

That was my first guess too but it really didn't look like him.

Yeah, I asked Jill Starkey if it was Dean, she said it wasn't him either. She thought i might have been Anthony too.

I wonder who it was?

Maybe it's Tim Werner of Advantage Athletics. He is/was a stuntman and pole vaulter.

In addition to those guys, back in those days the guys who got those gigs included Bill Thilken (my old training parter), Tom Hinthaus and David Kenworthy and possibly Steve Tully (Mike's brother).
