What's the overall best school to vault at?

I went to a Div. 1 school on a Pole Vault Scholarship. I had tuition, books and fees paid for. Not a good vault school, but I was just happy to be vaulting. Unless you are really good......your pole vault career ends after college. I am 31 and I just picked up pole vaulting again for fun. The scholarship helped me out big time and I got a degree in Criminal Justice. Look at your future aspects also.

Ive seen programs offer a full ride to a vaulter jumping 15' before (a minority school, looking for an african american pole vaulter to fit their school) and ive seen 17'+ jumpers not get full rides to the college of their choice. It depends on the current situation of their program.

Very few schools give full rides, especially to male vaulters. 4.90 could get you some money at some DI schools. Some schools you could only walk on with that.

Any school that would give you a full ride for 4.90 is probably not a school with a good vaulting program.

For those of you who think you are going to get an athletic (pole vaulting) scholarship... think again. Unless you are in the top 2% of all vaulters, this is probably not going to be a reality. The 2 year community college option is another great option where you can continue learning from some top coaches and still have a chance for a scholarship... here is a list and why...

Paradise Valley College, AZ-Full time coach is the great Todd Lehman of Sky Athletics who has coached April Steiner, Dayson Phelps and Trent Powell, all of whom went on to receive scholarships at the 4 year level.

Cuesta College, CA-Full time coach is the great Olympic Silver Medalist, Jan Johnson of Skyjumpers. Enough said.

Mt. SAC (Mt. San Antonio College), CA-Full time coach is the USATF Women's Pole Vault Development Chair, Brian Yokoyama who has mentored numerous World Class Athletes. Rumor has it that his paid assistant coach is none other than his former athlete and Mexican Record Holder/Olympian, Giovanni Lanaro (5.82M).

With these options, why not continue vaulting in college even if you don't get into a university or don't receive a scholarship. It's cheaper and with this type of coaching you are bound to jump higher.

I'm just going to say because going to college is about more than vaulting, or at least it should be. CC is probably the way to go for a lot of people absolutely set on putting up some big heights and later getting into a great vault school, but they might not offer the scholastic rigor (or name) that others are looking for. And yes, I am aware that the name of a CC does not show up on your college diploma--I've been told that multiple times by high school counselors.

However, for those considering the CC route, those are three amazing places to do it
