What should I do...I'm in a bit of a pickle

Unread postby theczar » Tue May 15, 2007 10:36 pm

Ok, so here's the scenario:

I qualified for DII Nationals. But, 6 months ago I said I'd be able to start my summer internship in May 14th. So, I can't be at my college with my coach to train. This entire week I've been working and doing the workouts that my coach told me to do. He said that I need to jump before Nationals, and taking a week off is'nt an option. I was planning to jump at my high school, but since I left they lent out the poles I was jumping on because they were too big for anyone else there. I can get some smaller poles for 3 or 4 step jumps, but I definatly can't do any full approaches.

Another thing is about being mentally prepared. I'm more stressed right now than I can ever remember being in my life. Finals week was last week, and I took a final Thursay morning, left right after that for a track meet, got home at around 1am from that meet. That friday, we left in the afternoon and drove 5 hours to another track meet on Saturday. My parents picked me up from that meet and drove me to a state park where my dad and I went speilunking in a wild cave that lasted 6 hours and was extremely strenuous. We drove 3 hours home from that Sunday night and got home around 10. I had to then get ready for my first day of work. Here's the kicker...I work in a coal mine. I'm in a training course that lasts all week and I'll be in the mine working my butt off, and by the time I get home, I'm really tired and I still have to do my track workout. By the time I get done with that, it's dinner time. After dinner, I have to get ready for work the next day, do some email stuff, and by then it's bedtime. I haven't gotten a single minute to relax in the past 2 weeks because of all this finals week stuff, my new job, and I'm going to nationals that I didn't plan for. I'm half falling asleep as I write this, and as soon as I'm done I have to go get ready for work again.

What do I do? I'm extremely stressed and I have a ton of stuff to do, and I need to get mentally and physically prepared for Nationals.

can anyone help?

You can work the rest of your life, dude. Ask for one more week for track. People are willing if you are honest, usually.

I already asked off for next week, but this first week is the only time they offer this training course all summer and if I don't complete it I can't work at all this summer.

That sucks. Well if you have time there are drills and stuff you can do at home. Espicially if you own a pole.

I say don't sweat it. Just do some light form running and agility drills and do your best to relax. Being uptight about a situation you have little control over won't do you any good.

You've already done the work. Your skills and physical abilities aren't going to disappear after a week off. Stress, on the other hand, can really wreck you. Best of luck to you at your meet.
