I need to get faster and better technically but I'm depending on you guys for the latter. You all have been a tremendous help to me in that area last year, especially you Dan, AND my fantastic coach, Kris Allison.

Setting goals can be psycologically tricky, It's good to have a target
it's not good to fail. We're all in this because of the positive feeling--I think-- I don't know of anyone making any money on their pole vaulting at this level. Still-- let's set some targets.

1. get comfortable with a 7 stride 78' run (I have short legs)
2. do that run faster--- nearer to the full sprint I can do on the track
3. move the grip up 12 inches in 12 months-- (I'm old I need baby steps)
4. transfer the body out from the pole that I can do in practice to eliminate the "kiss the bicepts" move I fade into in the heat of competition.( those of you who did not grow up in the steel pole era may not know how hard that is to unlearn what was a good thing in those days--even after decades)
5. Stay healthy and get stronger-- that's one for all of us
6. Go to Boston, Maine, and the world Championships in Italy in 2007
(and place somewhere in the top 10 of each )

You can TRY to take pole about anywhere - whether they actually get there or not is a different story!

I took some to Spain successfully 2 years ago.

Well I am no masters vaulter...but my coaches are and have some goals I will list for them

Paul Babits masters world record holder at 16'1" wants to jump 17' before the outdoor season is over...he is recovering from an achilles tendon problem, but jumped last week and was soaring over 15'6"....he is looking very well

Gary Hunter is also jumping great...but I do not know his goals

Learn to vault

Unread postby FriarPV » Thu Mar 08, 2007 3:44 pm

After watching two of my sons vault for the last three years I cannot resist my urge any longer. One week after my 48th birthday I decided that I have to learn to do this event. I have joined the Victory Athletics club in Anaheim, Ca. and we are going to find out what kind of a coach
PVP's own BJ Vandrovec really is. My goal right now is to make any bar without embarrassing my son.

[quote="master"]My goals for this next year are to learn to …
- run taller and plant taller
- take off at the correct position or a little out (not under) more often
- be “tighterâ€Â

souleman wrote:OK, First of all I usually don't "publish" goals. I've found that for me that if I reach them I forget how much work it took to get there and end up with an "oh well" attitude towards it. On the other hand, when I don't reach a goal I get very down and dissapointed. Case in point, 2006 goals were 10 feet at Boston and 11 feet at Charlotte. Both of which I didn't get close to and because of which I really came away from this season with a "what the h*ll am I doing this for" attitude. That being said, I want to:
1. Finish the set up in the backyard complete with lights and rubber runway
2. Hit 10 feet by Minnesota indoors (early march)
3. do 11 + feet by Louisville and Orono
4. be able to get back to respectability vaultingwise before my legs get to a
point where they hurt me too much to do this anymore.
So much dor me not setting any goals....huh? Later..........Mike

Hey you got the runway and lights up!!!!!!! Thats better than nothing:)

BTW, I'm not doing Boston Mike... the ankle still needs time:(
