LA times reporter looking for comeback story

Unread postby mcintyretj » Wed Jan 31, 2007 5:36 pm

Hi, Jeannine Stein from the Los Angeles Times contacted me today and is writing a story(s) about athletes coming back to a sport after a long break. If you know someone with a story or have one yourself and would like to be in a feature artical please contact Jeannine at:

jeannine.stein@latimes.com

(213) 237-3417

She will probably want to get you into the studio for a photo shoot so if you are local it would help. She used my feet in an artical a few weeks back (1/1/07) in a special fitness section if you want to check it out. She is looking for any athlete/sport but I told her about some of the polevaulters I have met which is why she contacted me.

I got an email from the reporter thanking me for the help. The story(s) will probably be in the health and fitness section that I think comes out on Mondays. I will post it here if I see it.

dj,

I jumped at Los Alamitos HS in the late 70s but Dustin DeLeo (UCLA) holds the school record.

I am teaching and coaching the vault at Whittier High School. I started up vaulting again myself a little over two years ago and compete when ever I can break free.

good morning

high school pole vault of 16+ in the '70's was kicking butt..

you guys were using much of what is being talked about as "the model" way back then... it has just gone full circle and is maybe being explained a little different... and poles have gotten much better....

mike tully had mentioned dustin... i think dustin was 10 years old when i was in california... but i wasn't sure he got your record..

has brody retired from los al yet??

good to here your still in it... or back in it

Returning to sportsTHE muscles may not fire as quickly and the bones might creak a little, but all-out, hard-driving competition doesn't have to stop after the diploma's in hand. Men and women who gave up their favorite sport after high school or college are discovering that you can go home again decades later â€â€

Well said, Bernie. You are a good role model for masters pole vaulters. Great article and photos.
Thanks for your good work, Tim, and for your help on Sunday. Hope you are back vaulting soon.
