I have a copy of Jack Shepards 2004 and It says Skipper has the 18yr age mark. Do you know why they are failing to recognise Jacob Davis mark?

I'll have to email him. Either they only looked at outdoor marks, or they went by year of birth instead of day.

dosent that make this mark like the 3 or 4th best in the US right now??

If they went by year, didn't Skipper turn 19 that year?

I believe "age" records are by birth date and "Junior" (under 20) record are by birth year.

After talking to him last Sunday, he was very excited about a new PR. I did not ask him about the national rankings or if he knew. But we are all happy for him and I will make sure to tell him of his ranking.

I think it is time to stop beating a dead horse. Guys I think all of us, including myself, are missing the point. Scott Roth cleared 5.51m, which seems like a rarity among freshmen pole vaulters -- even some upperclassmen.

Roth leads NCAA in pole vault
University of Washington freshman clears 18-1

Scott Roth continues to scale new heights as he moves up in competition.

Saturday the former Granite Bay high star and current University of Washing-ton freshman pole vaulter cleared 18 feet for the first time in winning the UW Indoor Invitational. His mark of 18 feet, 1 inch is the best in the NCAA this year and fifth best overall by an American male. It also automatically qualifies him for the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., in March.

Roth easily surpassed his former personal best and the UW freshman record of 17-6 ½ he set last week in Reno

As of the Reno meet the closest freshman in the nation to Roth according to Track and Field News was Seth Burney of Nebraska, who has a best of 17-3/4.

In just a few weeks of his first collegiate season, Roth has moved into second place on the all-time UW indoor pole vault list behind his training mate and former Huskies star Brad Walker, who cleared 19-0¼ in 2003.


Roth and UW are scheduled to compete next on Feb. 10 when they host the Husky Classic.

When the outdoor season begins in late March, Roth will have several opportunities to compete in Northern California, including the Stanford Invitational March 30-31, and NCAA Outdoor Championships at Sacramento State June 6-9.
