The draft thing is defnitely true, but he was drafted in the 37th round which is when they start drafting everyone and their grandmother.

To go vault for any school you want to, you still have to get the work done in the classroom. You can jump 19 feet in high school, but you won't get through college if you don't take care of the student part.

hmm.... i dunt really get that, lol. i no nothing about basebal, and dunt care to, but ud think it'd b pretty useless to get some speed and athletic ability there if the guy probably cant even hit tha ball to give him a chance to run through the bases, or make sum catches. but as u said, yeah 37th round... still seems kinda pointless.... just my $0.02

The idea is that he is so athletic that he would pick it up right away. He throws the jav pretty darn far, one would assume he can chuck a baseball a good distance.

Barto wrote:" Jumping 2 feet above ur handhold in high school is remarkable."

No, it is not. The higher you grip, the higher over your handhold you can jump. For a 16' grip 3' over your handhold would be good.

Tommy is remarkable because he can physically grip 16', not because he pushed 27". 18'3 with a 16' grip is very average.

Barto

Well let me ask u this can u jump 2 feet over ur hand hold?
hmmmm

Does it really matter. You can not, he did and teaches people to. Dont start slappin faces around here until you got the history to back it up. You are a 12' high school vaulter posting to a person with at least 15yrs coaching experience, and is a tech expert for one of the track catalog co for the vault. Thats not to mention his direct affiliation with the USATF.................When I was a 12' HS vaulter over in indiana (yes Dane I jumped against Danny in HS and Mark in college), I would have never shown any sort of arrogance (no matter who I knew). You should be asking this man how YOU can jump 2' over your grip because it never mattered if he ever did or not, he knows how and you need to.

I am only being aggressive here because on another board that used to be HUGE all the 10-12 foot vaulter who knew EVERYTHING killed it. All the good coaches got sick of argueing with the 14yr olds about a simple question. SO any time I see someone take this approach it bothers me a little more than it should.

Actually guys, with the box and all, it is a 35 inch push. 16'-8''=15'4. 18'3''-15'4=35inches. That is a pretty decent push. I would say a GREAT push is anything over 44 inches, as that is what you need to jump real high! If you want 20 feet, grip 17 and you should be in the ballpark! Too bad its not that simple though.
Retain faith that you will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties.

I wasnt THAT mean.................was I??? I didnt mean to be I just wanted to make a point. Barto is a stud coach and former (has some serious back prob, not from vaultin, now) vaulter who helped develop the USATF coaching cert program curriculum. And then there are the HS kids on this board who on OCCASION cross the line. I know its not intentional but lets keep this board informative not inflamatory. Show everyone respect (unless were just havin some fun) and you will get all the advice you can handle.

With utmost respect to ALL, Bryan
