Hartwig M35 record deleted from USATF

Unread postby TrackCEO » Fri Dec 22, 2006 1:10 am

Hi, all

This is REALLY strange. :dazed:

Today I noticed that Gary Hunter is listed as holding the American Record in the M35 age group:
http://www.usatf.org/statistics/records ... le%20vault

Meanwhile, World Masters Athletics lists Jeff Hartwig's 5.86 from 2004 as the world record for M35.

But only a few days ago, USATF listed Jeff as the American record holder. Now it's gone.

Have any idea how this happened?

I would have no idea.

BTW I was there when Gary set that record in Naperville.

I think I myself took three attempts at that one meet, but it was still a great time.

Hartwig has never applied for the masters record. I am surprised it was ever listed. He doesn't particularly care about the M35 record. He just wants that one M40 record that is 5.50 so that a more legit record will be on the books.

He never knew about this whole record application process until this fall when he went to his first USATF Annual Meeting. That is why you may see LoJo listed as the American record holder indoors. No one ever applied for Hartwig's record jumps to be ratified.

You mean the M40 record by Larry Jesse is not legit! ;)

I erred in saying that Jeff had a record erased. I was confused on the issue. (My latest masters moment.)

But I'm thrilled to learn that Jeff is shooting for the M40 record.

He and Pat Manson both replied to my email queries.
