Leaning back at take off!
OK so i just started jumping after a few months of being off and everything in my jump seems to be going well except! when iam about 3 strides out from my plant iam leaning back and i end up planting with my back actually leaning away from the box instead of driving towards it, what is my deal? and how do i fix that?? my goal is to be on 15'6 poles at reno and at this rate i wont be, so any advice on how to train my body to lean forward and drive up into the pole would be great thanks!

You are a brave man.
LOL, I think (hope) he meant like 48 Barto.
Oh and being passive your last 3 steps isn't a little problem. Its one of those huge things that keeps people from jumping high their whole lives. All I can recommend is start from a 3 left focusing on an aggressive plant, then when you can do that move back to 4 then 5, etc. But don't rush anything, Reno is too early to make alterations in your training schedule for. If you are only vaulting successfully from 5 lefts by that time, then jump from 5. Reno is about having fun and learning (and gambling(and brothels)), not qualifying for nationals (this year anyway). Mmmmmm, brothels.

try this experiment.
put your pole down for a moment. bring out the video camera.
Do a board jump where you trying to jump as far as you can coming from lets say 6 lefts/rights. Have the camera video tape what you do the last two lefts.
Next watch the video and you will have your answer to why your leaning back at the plant.
Watch those strides reach baby. your running technique and planting technique are flawed.
You need more practice on the basics of finishing your plant while running with proper mechanics. Good luck!!
