The Bears also signed two to bolster the field events with Joe Farley of Aledo, Texas, who is the fourth-ranked returning pole vaulter nationally this season and Nick Lyons of Waitsburg, Wash., who is the seventh-ranked returning javelin thrower this season.

"With Nick and Joe being two of the top returning athletes nationally in their respective field events they will make an immediate impact at the conference level for us," Harbour said. "Coach (Danny) Brabham, who recruited both of these young men, feels that both will develop into outstanding national level athletes for us.

Prep All-American Phil Feinberg Leads Talented Track & Field Recruiting Class

Cards sign 10 prep athletes, including six women and four men

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville track and field program opened the early signing period by signing 10 prep standouts to national letters-of-intent for the Fall of 2007. The recruiting class is comprised of six women's athletes and four men's athletes from five different states and two countries.

Signing with the men's track and field program were Phil Feinberg (jumps), Kyle Gann (multi/pole vault), Joshua Greenwald (throws) and Neil Loveridge (throws), while the women's track and field program added Emily Borsare (distance), Breanna Hunsley (throws), Lotte Jacobs (distance), D'Ana McCarty (throws), Chinwe Okoro (throws) and Heather Sole (jumps).

Women's Track & Field Announces the Signing of 5 Athletes to NLI's

Two of the Nation's best will be Bruins in the Fall of 2007

Jeanette Bolden and the UCLA women's track and field team announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent on Wednesday. The class is highlighted by two of the Nation's top athletes, triple jumper Ke'Nyia Richardson and pole vaulter Tori Anthony.

Joining Richardson and Anthony next Fall as Bruins are distance runner Shannon Murakami, pole vaulter Aubree Stark and sprinter Joy Eaton.

TORI ANTHONY - Pole Vault, Castilleja HS (Woodside, CA)
Anthony enters her senior year as the No. 2 prep vaulter in the country with a best vault of 13-4. Her mark ranked first in California last season. Anthony was the CA State Meet champion in 2006, as well as the USATF Junior National Champion last season. She represented the U.S. at the World Junior Championships in Beijing, China this past summer, finishing eighth overall. Her mark of 13-4 is a Central Coast Section record and ranks sixth all-time in CA.

"It is great getting one of the top recruits in the country, especially one that is so consistent, and that's something you want in a sport like pole vaulting," noted Vault Coach Anthony Curran. "Vaulting is an unpredictable sports and Tori is as solid as you can get."

AUBREE STARK - Pole Vault, Oak Park HS (Agoura Hills, CA)
Stark was the No. 18 ranked pole vaulter in California last season with a best vault of 11-9 and is expected to have a solid senior season.

"Although Aubree has a modest best of 11-9, she's a hardworker who will undoubtedly have a strong final year of high school track," noted Coach Curran. "I am excited that she will be coming here next fall because we have such a great group of vaulters."

Nebraska signs 13 track athletes

Men’s Track and Field signs Junior Olympic champion, two high school cross country championship finalists

AUSTIN, Texas -- Highlighted by one USATF Junior Olympic Champion and two Foot Locker cross country championship participants, the men’s track and field team, led by Texas head coach Bubba Thornton, has signed five prep athletes to National Letters of Intent (NLI). All will enroll in classes beginning in the fall of 2007.

The 2007 incoming class includes Junior Olympic Champion sprinter Danzell Fortson (Keller, Texas/Keller Central), Foot Locker Cross Country Champion participants Jay Heller (Marietta, Ga./Walton) and Brian Rhodes-Devey (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland), state champion hurdler Justin Price (Holland, Texas/Holland) and Texas regional champion pole vaulter Maston Wallace (Friendswood, Texas/Clear Brook).

"This is a great group of young student-athletes," said an elated Thornton. "We're excited that they are joining our team. They are a tremendously talented class and I look forward to them becoming a part of the university."

The Longhorns signed one of the top vaulters in the nation in Maston Wallace. He is 10th in the nation among high school competitors in the pole vault and has the third-best vault in the state. Wallace, from Clear Brook High School in Friendswood, won the Texas Region 3-5A Championship after clearing a height of 16-0. He made a splash on the national youth scene with a fifth-place performance and height of 16 feet, 2.75 inches at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

Valparaiso senior pole vaulter commits to South Florida

Dana Webb doesn't dislike cold weather.

But it's a lot harder to practice pole vaulting outdoors with snow on the ground.

That's mainly why the Valparaiso senior signed her National Letter of Intent with South Florida on Monday night.

"Now I can practice year round outside," Webb said. "It's a good school, and it's also in a good conference, the Big East -- and once again, it's in Florida."

Webb was originally a gymnast in high school, then girls track coach Jim McCall and assistant Mick Cavanaugh talked to the then-sophomore about trying the pole vault that spring.

Webb finished 12th in the state as a sophomore and tied for 11th as a junior.

This year she'll concentrate exclusively on pole vaulting through the winter.

"I've been practicing since the state meet," she said. "I liked gymnastics a lot, but I just wanted to focus on pole vault. I just thought it made a lot more sense."

Webb also helped the Vikings place 14th in the 400 relay last year.

"That helped get me warmed up," Webb said. "I liked the competitive aspect of running against someone else. As a pole vaulter, you also need that speed."

Webb said that she received a partial athletic scholarship -- money for books -- but she also qualified for an academic scholarship to make it almost a full ride.

Webb has already achieved some success without a full training regimen. She believes the all-year schedule can only help make her a better pole vaulter.

"It definitely should help," she said. "It's just nice to know now where I'm going, and there's no pressure."

Fenton track star commits to Clemson

Amy Morrison believes in taking her time when making important decisions.

When the Fenton senior started visiting colleges, she didn't stop after her first trip. It took four plane rides before she found where she wanted to be.

Morrison has signed a national letter of intent to compete in track and field at Clemson University in Clemson, S.C., next year.

The reigning Division 1 state champion in the pole vault also visited Georgia, South Florida and Wisconsin before settling on Clemson.

"When you're making that important of a decision, you want to visit a lot of places," Morrison said. "I felt like (Clemson) was the right place."

Morrison said she never really considered staying in state, opting for a warm-weather school because their meets are always run outdoors.

Morrison flew down to Clemson last Saturday and was very impressed with the school's campus, facilities and she felt comfortable with Clemson's coaches and her soon-to-be teammates.

Besides the pole vault, Morrison said Clemson's coaches are looking at her to possibly compete in the pentathlon and the heptathlon.

Morrison is four-year starter for Fenton's track team. During her first three seasons, she has won seven individual events at the Metro League track meet, including three straight titles in the pole vault and the 100 hurdles.

She won the state championship in the pole vault last spring with a vault of 12-1. Her vault was the second-best in state history behind the 12-4 Sturgis' Shannon Teeple cleared in 2000 and the best at any Michigan state meet ever.
