Sports dome to rise on former ASI property
Thursday, March 24, 2005 - by Yvonne Ramsay

Anchorage, Alaska - What could be among the largest sports complexes in the country is set to break ground in Anchorage this June.

Anchorage Community Development signed a purchase and sale agreement for the former Alaska Seafood International property last week, and a major partner, Grace Alaska Inc., says it’s already making plans for the site -- big plans.

Grace Alaska managers say they can't wait to break ground on the new sports dome. They say whether you're a baseball fan or a soccer fan, there will be something for everyone.

Sportsplex keeps track team strong
By Suzanna Caldwell
October 17, 2006
Starting January 2007, pushing snow and chipping five inches of ice off frozen tracks will be a thing of the past for UAA’s track and field team.

With the arrival of the Anchorage Sportsplex, a new indoor six-lane track, complete with long and triple jump pits, as well as facilities for throwers and even a pole vault pit, training will get a little easier for the athletes.

The project was the brainchild of Gene Desjarlais, president of Anchorage Sportsplex Development, who described it as “Mulcahy Stadium, but with a dome.â€Â
