sweet! heres my little ditty after my incident
oh pole vaulting,
oh pole vaulting,
wind is teh sucketh...,
the pole is very flexible,
snapping back into the testicle,
the right one stings,
and no more i will swing,
the ice cubes are are chilling,
the "soft spots" are unwilling,
shrinkage is being felt,
pain below the belt.
oh pole vaulting,
oh pole vaulting,
the wind is teh suckteh. -me
"There was once a korean who did vault
Who's sperm production did halt
When asked, "What's the matter?"
He replied, "MY BALLS SPLATTER!"
As he clutched himself on the asphalt." -my friend pauls rendition of me

Regarding poetry...
Thanks for the poems, I got a good chuckle! Sounds painful though, sorry about that.
There must be some more out there, or some folks willing to give it a go. (Vaulting poetry that is, not smacking oneself in the unmentionables), so let's hear it!
(And yes, I'll work on one as well.)
Vault on.

Maybe I wasn't supposed to eat those paint chips?

My poems
So, I have written 2 poems in the past. Here they are:
The First One:The Truth Behind Pole Vaulting
Vaulting is what I love to do,
And to me is a sport that is definetely new.
I love to vault all day in the sun,
And love to do pop-ups just for fun.
When up in the air I feel so free,
With only my pole to guide me.
Technique is definetely a key,
And You have to master it to a tee!
Mental Toughness is what you need,
Because it will give you tons of speed.
When on the runway,
I think of it like a stairway.
It's leading me to great success,
So I will try my very best.
Just Plant High,
And you will go as high as the sky.
Lastly run fast,
And you will get a PR at last!
As for the Second Poem: The Vault to Success
The height of the bar stood before me,
And would greatly test my ability.
It was up to me to clear this,
And the reward would be NCS.
I gripped the pole with all my might,
For I would soon be in flight.
Running on the runway I felt so free,
Holding the pole beside me.
The rush of the pole being put into the ground,
Had made a quick and abrubt sound.
The pole then pulled me off my feet,
For I was now in the driver's seat.
While rocking back my heart said I could do this,
And that I did not come here to miss.
I then allowed my body to go into a turn,
And that's when I knew that clearing the height wouldn't be a concern.
Letiting go of the pole I knew I had done it,
For next I landed happily on the pit.
I knew that clearing the height had gotten my to NCS,
And therefore I felt no more stress!
Hope you guys liked them! Luv, Ashley

Kinda lame, written 2004 after meet in NYC armory. not my best work
MONDO
Clay, Rubber Mondo, Glass, Foam air,
Air, altitude the ultimate goal,
With a deliberate smack
And a swing and a delayed spring
Altitude running breathing
Altitude counting left foot
Left hand, my left arm, my right knee,
Screaming fans like fire alarms
Like sirens, the sirens that I love
The sirens of why I stay,
The reason why I do it,
The reason I have no friends all for that screaming, landing, smiling, waving
Marks of a true hero.

Well, it's not exactly about pole vaulting (it's about a rope swing). However, the inspiration for the poem came from a trip with my pole vaulters after a summer practice, and it has the whole flight theme. I know that the last couplet sucks...oh well.
And, yes, it is a sonnet (which is harder to write than you'd think).
Summer Flight
The heat of the sun falls on a summer's noon
Minds searching, seeking possible relief
A cooling quest suggested none too soon
Icy waters would make this torment brief
To the lake, down a path to soaring swing
View of shimmering waters far below
Feeling the edge, my wings now are spreading
Gliding above glass; weightless, I let go
Breaking the surface, a new light descends
Sodden clothes soon forgotten with laughter
Returning, I wish it might never end
Believing for once in ever after
Now as I write on a cold winter night
My heart is warmed by that sole summer flight
And, yes, it is a sonnet (which is harder to write than you'd think).

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me play among the stars

Daniel Ryland
Ok so its not poetry but Daniel Ryland definately has some great semi- pole vault songs out there. Anyone have a copy of the lyrics?
