This question is for all the geezers (anyone who is vaulting after college)...
What kind of training do you do when you're on your own, and when do you find time to do it?
I have a full time job, and I'm pretty tired when I wake up and get home from work. But I still want to jump high...as always.

Gets really tough when you've got kids.
I think the level you are at or trying to get too makes a difference in your planning. If your world class or trying to get there, I think you need to get all your training done in the afternoon or evening. I don't think a high level athlete can get the quality training in for speed or strength in during the morning before work. The body's just not ready to go. Conditioning would probably be ok in the AM.
I just do this for fun, so for me, with my familly life, it works best to get up really early (4:30) and train (yeah, I know - "fun"). Vaulting is another challenge. Last year I vaulted with the local JC. One night a week in the winter and one afternoon a week in the spring. I had to leave work an hour and a half early on those days in the spring.
From my experience, if your tired, you've gotta just get out there and do it. Once you get going you'll be fine and quite glad you did. It's the getting started that's hard. If you get a half hour into your warm up and not feeling into it maybe you will need to reassess your sleep or diet or something, but my guess is that won't be the case.
I'm surprized your not getting more responses. My guess is most of the "geezers" coach and train at the same time. That would be great but my job doesn't allow for that. I probably need more experience before coaching anyway.

My last 2 years in hs I basically trained on my own. I ran golf courses on weekends and did hand stand pushup, leg raises and chin ups in my house. I went to the gym once a week.
I college we were completely on our own except to vault for 2 hours, 2 nights a week.
I am starting to vault again after 30 years off. Talk to a hs athletic director ( or college) near you. I became the hs pv coach and have access to the pits whenever I wish. The hs kids provide the enthusiasm.
