Vaulter Suggested to be J. Thrower

Unread postby izzystikchik » Sun Oct 08, 2006 12:19 am

I'm a so. college vaulter at Marquette U., and just recently we've, as in our whole sprint/mid-sprint/jumper/vaulter squad, had a mini-octatholon competition this week to test our skills and see if we had other talents.
One of them being how far one can throw a a softball (for girls, the boys had to use a football).
I threw the farthest to my suprise, and so my coach suggested to me that i should try Jav, and see how it would fly, not saying i would stop vaulting or anything...

Is this a good thing or a bad thing for me as a vaulter? I would say it is a good thing because it is good for vaulters to be well rounded athletes, but it looks like this event is a little straining on the shoulders and possibly back, and I don't have the best of backs right now.

Any experienced field coaches out there?

Rick Attig was a vaulter/Javelin thrower combo in college I believe.
"You have some interesting coaching theories that seem to have little potential."

Worked for Laura Huarte at Notre Dame. She wound up being the Notre Dame record holder in the jav.

just be careful with your elbow and shoulder....javelin can hurt you if done incorrectly or too much.
