Who is qualified to give technical advice on pole vaulting?

OK old crafty one - Apart from the handful of folk who have indicated otherwise, I am not sure that there will any interest in the topic of Instruction. I think almost everyone out there believes that they are pretty good at it so there is little more to learn. Since "SET TO LEARN" is probably the most critical factor in any learning situation I suspect i will be p---g into the wind. In fact on past experience I am certain i will be doing so and the the wind of PVP will blow everything right back on top of me! To limit the damage when I get around to it, I will post in the Coaches Forum.

So to ensure that I do not waste too much of my time I am prepared to post -in serial form - my draft rewrite of Chapter 10 in Beginner to Bubka. Since it will not be markedly different from that original material, those of you who already have BTB will not get too much from it. While I am not going to enter into debates about these issues ,which by and large are givens in Education, I will be happy to receive CONSTRUCTIVE feedback on this topic which might help me improve the second edition of BTB which will available sometime in 2020.

In fact unless there is some evidence -not just SWMBO's opinion, that folk are reading the stuff, I will cut the exercise short. Why waste good ether?

I am here to listen and ask questions. When I was mentored under Andjei in 89/90 he asked me to just watch and be quiet......hahaha. But sometimes I came up with one.
Exa: Korry T. Was doing something wrong in his full vaults (consistantly) so I asked Andjei if he was going to make a correction that day. He said no. It was a training issue. That was all he said....So then I had to follow them around to find out the remediation Andjei was having Korry do. Then it made sense. Sometimes you just have to watch and search for the question.

You just had like 6 people in 24 hours say they were interested. This is a SLOW time of year for this message board. That is a pretty good number.

Rick and Alan, quit waiting for everyone to beg you to share your information. You both have good information to share. It needs to be said, whether people are begging to hear it or not.

I know it is frustrating to have to endure criticism from young athletes who think they have it figured out. Good thing there is the coaches forum to make that a non-issue.

Quit letting your egos dictate whether or not you share information. Sometimes what people NEED to hear isn't what they WANT to hear. Most people choose to read the board and not post.

For example, right now there is 1 logged in user and 8 guests. Usually during the day I will see 1-5 logged in users and 10-30 guests. Guests can't post. If they wanted to post they would log in.

When you write a book, you don't expect every single reader to send you back a letter and tell you their opinion of it. The same should be true here. I know it can be hard to write when you feel like no one cares, but that doesn't mean the message isn't worth sharing and that no one is listening.

You can see how often each thread has been viewed. The thread on "When to change pole lengths" has been viewed over 1600 times. Rick's thread on Education Experience has been viewed over 3500 times. You seriously think no one is reading?

Thankyou Becca. I can just about imagine what it would have been like back in the 60's if there would have been a high jump forum. Can you imagine how bar-b-que'd Dick Fosberry would have gotten had he suggested going over the high jump bar back first instead of stomach first? All the experts would have "smoked" him for sure. My only wish for this forum would be not only to discuss and teach proven methods of the vault, but also to explore all the "wild haired" possibilities of the vault. If that was allowed, anyone should be able to comment and possibly critique. We do have a lot of sharp cookies on this forum. From the 6.40 model to Ming3's style we all have the right to say, "that's for me" or "that's not for me". We always focus on the finished product and not enough time on the many "little links" in the events chain. Later..Mike
