Pole vault landing systems

Unread postby jebbutler » Tue Aug 22, 2006 10:55 pm

I am planning to purchase a landing system for my daughter (freshman -high school). I would like some guidance regarding the different brands- they all say they are the best! The prices vary significantly, from Altius to portapit to UCS. Any takers?

I recommend Elite pits, but their website is down and I don't know the phone number. Anyone?

Thank you for your quick response. Does anyone else have any input, favorite pit and reasons why..... comfort, safety, durability?

Here is a link for an Elite Pit dealer:
http://www.arkansasvaultclub.com/

The link for pits/poles is like half way do the page. there is also a contact number at the end of the price list.

I am not a fan of MF Athletics' pits. One of the other schools in our conference got one a at the start of the 2004 season and it is still the hardest pit i have ever jumped on AFTER three seasons of use!

MF athletics pits have changed names since then to "First Place". I dont know if they are any better now, but they were rather uncomfortable to compete on.

M-F's First Place are a private label of UCS pits. I also find brand new UCS uncomfortably hard to land on, but I am not falling from very high. Most people seem to like them just fine.

I'd personally recommend Richey pits made by Max Richey. He's a local Indiana pit and standard maker. He's a little pricey, but he makes quality stuff. He made all our pits and standards at Purdue and they last forever.

I don't have a contact number for him at the moment, but can probably dig one up....

I have had an Elite pit since the summer of 02. It has never been in storage and we use it 12 months a year. Still in great shape and had a bazillion jumps on it.

I really like "BTA" pits. They're in Houston and really high quality. UT had this brand for years until they hosted the NCAA's and UCS gave them free ones. I believe UCLA has them also. Usually very good prices too.

You should check out PR sports Eddie sells gill pits at a very low price. We got a pit from him a few years back and saved about $4,000. He doesn't have the prices on his site but they are very low so you should call him. When I bought our pit it was the year before the pit size rule change and instead of selling me a pit that would have become illegal he advized me about the rule change other companies didn't.

You know what would be cool, pit makers have been starting to print logos on the PLZ - coach's Box, team logos, company logo's... If you’re going to buy a pit, get a prorate of your daughter or something and see if they can print it up.... that would be sweet.....
