Hunter went 15'3 in high school. 17' first year, 18' second year, and then 18'4 summer of 2000 (after season) to go to the olympic trials. So 2 more years down at UT got him 4 more inches. Which is still progress, just trying to let people know. Hunter was not a product of Texas, more of a VT export

and not to be a complete jack***.... 4" means he jumped higher under dan, right?

Let's not split hairs over this issue... Both coaches seemed to do an amazing job with him... 4" is a lot after you have surpassed 18'... What I dont understand is why he would transfer if he was doing so well at VT???

Don't get me wrong, UT's program speaks for itself. Great program and school. But Hunter transferred for reasons not involving VT or track at all that aren't mine or anyone else's business. Rest assured, though, VT is no slouch of a vault program.

EDIT: Bit my tounge.

yeah it does. but i could gaurantee he would have continued to improve at VT. 4 inches in 2 years is not overly impressive. Im not trying to take away from Dan, im just saying that hunter is not Dans doing. As for his mistakes, he no heighted at NCAA meets at texas as well. Also, the two are still close friends, in fact he came down from new york and spent a few days with us earlier in the year. His leaving was the result of other issues. Credit where credits due. Dans got plenty of flagships... hunter is not one of them. PERIOD

i don't believe anyone is trying to take anything away from VT's program, i'm certainly not. i'm trying to draw a comparison to this but can't seem to think of one right now.

and since i get asked this in EVERY interview about miss. state... why did he leave VT?
8700... mark it down

well from what he told me back when i first met him at penn relays in 01, it was a combination of his girlfriend transferred down to UT, and feeling like he had outgrown what used to be a pretty bottom of the line track team and wanting to be part of a nationals contender.

I promise you that Dan has forgotten more about pole vaulting than anyone else on this site knows. How many national championships did bryan win at VT?

one more post on this and then im done with this thread, im not saying dan is a bad coach, im not saying he didn't do great things at texas, im simply saying that he is not responsible for 95 percent of hunter's progress. hunters career was about 11 years long, with only 2 years being at texas. the great bridge coach deserves credit as well. also, brIan is how its spelled. Also be careful what you because there are plenty of knowledgeable people on this site who might take offense to your comments about their lack of knowledge. and im out of this thread. flame on
