Re: How about this one...
Its a shame that coach Launder got pushed away from the site. I hope he comes back.

He didn't get pushed away, he chose to leave.

I believe a high school boy should be:
20 lbs plus
14'8"
24"
A High School Girl:
20 lbs plus
13'8"
18" after 4 years of training!
And none of the variables can be sacrificed at the expense of another. The best girl there was:
20 lbs plus
13'2"
0
...... Oh yeah, all my previous posts on Skipper relate to this concept. His numbers were:
25 lbs plus (into the flex numbers after a 210 lb pole)
16'
33" = National HS Record.

WOW!!! What a ride. The camp went extremely well. It was the best camp experience of my life. The knowledge we had present and the excellent collaberative coaching efforts of the staff needs to be commended. Coaches can have ego's sometimes (Nah, you recon?) but none came to the camp.
Rick's post is great. I would like to revisit "Top" or "Best" vaulter. Typically it is based on meet PR. And it probably should. But as Rick has stated above overall performance should be based on criteria like we see above. If that is so, the "Best" girl at the camp would not have been the one with the highest PR, with 0" clearance over grip, but instead the 15 year old who's numbers are:
15 lbs plus
11' 6" grip
14" clearance over grip
12' PR
Just think what she may do with a 13' grip. First we learn how to vault and clean up the run, then we open up a can of vault.
Food for thought.
Also congrat's to two of our campers and SC regulars, who won the USATF Youth Athletic Ntl's in Greensboro, NC this weekend. Allie Nicosia won the IG division (Allie is the one who has 14" clearance over grip) and Jaquon Pegues won the IB division (Jaquon jumped 14' at 14 yrs old a few weeks ago). Congrats to all the others who participated as well after being worn out from camps around the country, with little time to recover.
And a very special thanks to our incredible coaching staff of: DJ Johnston, Alan Launder, Rick Baggett, Michael Lawryk, Tim Beach, Jimmy Stephens, David Price, Chase Shealy, Chris Steddum and Spencer Stephens. As well as our student athletes, that we can not mention by name because of NCAA rules, they did a wonderful job. I am very proud of them.

good morning
no allan was not "pushed away" he was a guest addition to the staff and an awesome addition... that all the campers loved and admired for his "dry wit" and tremendous knowledge and teaching methods.. campers are writing in daily to do another camp and hoping allan will be there...
hope he is enjoying texas... i know the campers will be...
allan was the explaination mark to a great camp..
coaches and athletes only get a few "oh wow's " in a career... the "summit" for some is an example.. this was one of a handfull for me over a 30+ year career..
i want to encourage every vaulter and coach to search out those, camps, clinics, BS sessions that might have the one answer to you becoming a better vaulter, coach or even a better person..
we never will "know it all" (all though i know i sound like i do sometimes) and we need to keep looking for that new way to explain the run, the plant, the swing...
i know that approach has kept me "young" if you will, with a high energy level and a passion for what i do...
no allan was not pushed away.. our camp was about becoming a better pole vaulter and about listening to every view and description of a phase of the vault and not being critical of any view.
views are ways of describing an action... a "row" to some is a swing to me... all phases of the vault come back to one thing.. application of force. if you apply forces in the right way and in the right direction you will jump to the maximum of you ability and talent.............

I was mentioning how Coach Launder doesn’t post on PVP any more. I wasn’t trying to make a comment about your camp
as Becca said
"He didn't get pushed away, he chose to leave" which is probably right
Coach Launder is one of my favorite coaches, I learned more from him in one of his 30 min training sessions than i have from an entire week in another camp.

Intersting...How many HS girls do you know who have held 13'8"? That seems really high to me. Your expectations for HS Boys seems fair but the 13'8" seems really high and I just got done coaching someone who was 5-9 and would hold 13-6 regularly. I don't think many of the girls at US Juniors held much over 13-0.

hey
sorry becca and mightymouse... i didn't connect the dots to allan not being on pvp to this thread..
although this is an open forum... i'm sure allan's frustration was getting critisized by some that have not done their "homework" so to speak...
that's why i wrote my last post ... to point out pv technique can be viewed and explained in several ways... jumping to conclusions and targeting the source doesn't help us find common language..
this is a great forum...... all of track and field, USATF in particular needs to take note and do as half as well for the whole sport...
i have explained parts of the vault in several different ways.. depends on the athlete/coach and their learning method. but it still comes down to the very basic fundementals.......... run as fast as you can.. plant as high as you can and swing as fast as you can........

I agree. Sometimes we can get caught up in details and little annoyances. But if you step back and look, the site has made great progress for the sport, People are vaulting safer, smarter, and having more fun.
