Buller wins pole vault
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Former LSU and Westlake High track athlete Russ Buller won the pole vault at 19- 1/4 at the U.S. track and field championships. Afterward, he emotionally thanked his younger brother Jordan, whom he had promised he would continue competing. In October, 2005, a short time after that promise, Jordan Buller was killed in a car crash.

Men's Pole Vault Champion- Russ Buller
"This past year I moved back out to the Olympic Training Center. It was a big deal for me to leave my job and everything. To win a national title my first year back is just great. My whole goal is to make it to 2008. Hopefully, I can just maintain and make it to the next Olympics."

I had a feeling Russ would be in the top 2

When Russ MOved to Ca to the training camp. I saw a new training going on. He was not as flat, he was using lighter poles with much more pop on top. His form was so much better. It was like a new Buller.
You can atribute Toby and Tye and the OLympic coach for helping him get this new form and run down. He has improved so much you will see more top vaults now that he is jumping with his new technique. COngratulations to Russ WHo has really worked hard to come this far. It pays off to try new things right RUss!

SKOT, 5.91 would have been a 10 cm (4 inch) improvement had he cleared it.
Conditions were great, except a little hot and humid. there was a nice breeze throughout the competition, but the breeze seemed to calm down when they started to run.

to anyone who hasn't gotten a chance to meet them, all those elite guys in the meet are just awesome people. gabe and myself were feeling a bit out of place to say the least sitting in the clerking tent, but they were all just real cool chill guys. really funny too, everyone was just having a great time during warm ups, laughing and goofing around. giving each other grief. it really was an amazing experience
