polebender, let me pose you this question:

Are you still PRing? I have no idea who you are or how old you are, but one doesn't PR every year when vaulting at that level.

Toby jumped 5.90m in 2005 while Tim jump 5.70m (he was hurt i think). That's still not too shabby. Its still early in the season for the Elites and this being an off year for international comps (no WC or Olympics), there's no reason to be jumping your highest at this stage in the season.

If you look at the current world list: http://www.iaaf.org/statistics/toplists ... index.html

Tob is 5th and Tim is =11th in the WORLD

saying these guys are past their prime is laughable...

tim went 5.85 last year, and toby was 5.90. they arent done. i watched tim blow up 5.60 from like 5 or 6 lefts. he just hasn't hit form from his full approach.

and as people has mentioned, this isn't the year to go big anyway. i dont think you can count anyone out until the trials are done, especially in this sport

nope, not PRing (dont have anywhere to vault). if you look at the 6 meter club and see the ages these guys PRed it averages at "about" 27 or so. now if you look at the iaaf list there are alot of guys in their mid 20's. now im talking about 2008. so tim will be 36 and toby 32. the other guys will be in the 25-30 range which seems to be the prime age for an elite vaulter. im not saying that tim and toby are done, rather that it seems unlikely they will be at the top in 08. if they are (and i DO hope so) there are going to be some great jumps that year.

I've seen several of Tim's practices...he's definitely not done and I know 08 is a target. They are both working toward peaking then.

I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but what is the purpose of bad mouthing these great athletes? This is the kind of crap that degrades this message board. If you want to talk about who you think will be doing well in '08 great! But be courteous enough to keep the put downs to yourself.

Morrison in 08!!! haha :-)
I still think its too early to call, a lot of great athletes can accomplish a lot of great things that we cant see, because they had an injury or are saving themselves for something. Thats the way vaulting has worked for me, anyways. The only meets i have PR'ed at, i have PR'ed by a foot since indoor, starting at 12 going 13 in 1 meet, then from 13 to 14 in one meet (a few weeks later), and now id hopefully like to follow that pattern :-). But just saying, work out regimens and ability levels sometimes come together at the right time, and at an elite level, they can make that time if they plan for it.
The greater the challenge, the more glorious the triumph

The bottom line is you can not PR or have tough meets for years.

Only thing that matters is one afternoon in '08.

I am willing to bet almost all elites in the US would trade a good two year run for one good meet in '08.
