My Technique

Unread postby Atokad » Sat May 06, 2006 9:54 am

Hi, i am a Freshman in Highschool and my personal record is 10'3". I feel i can get higher but i dont know how. I believe i have good technique ( Not slowing down on run, firm plant with good pole bend, making that inverted C thing, pushing my feet to the sky, and twisting and pushing against the pole at the end to give me that extra jump ) Please help because i do not know what to do, should i get a longer pole?

well on a pole under your body weight you are never going to jump very high because there will be no blow coming off the top of the pole
pain is only temporary victory is forever

well the weight of the pole may be 135 but im guessing you arent holding all the way up.... and be aware theres only so much we can help you with without seeing your jumps, the best thing to do if you are really serious about it is seek out a local coach and go at least once a week to get the kind of tips you need. But 10'3 as a freshman already is decent, and if a lot more form you will see tons of improvement real quick.

I am holding 5 grips down on a 13' UCS Spirit Pole.

I need to raise my grip up, but we only have about 4 meets a year that we polevault at.

"only 5 meets a year that we polevault at"

do you not get to practice? cause the # of meets shouldn't prevent your working on your vault & technique!

No we do but we hardly ever get to actually go over something besides the bungee, its just disapointing.

I cleared 11'6 in practice today but i vault tommorow.
My standards are set at 20

Good luck. I got the biggest duel meet of the season tomorrow, battle of the undefeateds vs a rival school. How about you get 11'6'' and I get 13'? Fair enough?

You should not move to a longer pole, stiffer pole, or move your grip up with your standards only at 20"!!! You need to improve your take off, swing , and probably runway speed. So you can vault with the standards at 30+"
