right, so does anyone know how tommy s. compares?

http://www.usatf.org/athletes/bios/Skipper_Tommy.asp

tommy is 6'2" 170 lbs according to that

bubka at 183cm and 80 kg translates to about 6' even and 176 pounds

not sure how accurate those stats are though.

Well it certainly will not be someone who believes success in the vault is 90% dependent on cojones.

From my work helping Tommie's coach, Mark Vanderville get him poles I would say that on Tommie's best jumps he has been on 5.10m poles holding somewhere around 5.03m to 5.07m while his series of pole flexes go from something close to a 12.8 down to 11.2 and I think he gennerally gets up on his 12.0 or 11.6 for his biggest jumps. Last year at an indoor meet at the University of Washington I beieve Tommy was timmed in at nearly 10m/sec by Pat Licari using his dart fish set up. So none of these are official stats but I believe they are close to accurate

Of the 53 6.00m jumps ever recorded during outdoor campaigns:

Bubka- 28

Hartwig- 5
Brits- 3
Gataullin- 3
Lobinger- 2
Mack- 1
Stevenson- 1
Burgess- 1

I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but if they have then consider this a refresher.

Paulvaulter - I sincerely hope your PB is better that 5.00m because Isinbyeva has jumped that high relying on technique rather than cojones.
Since I presume that you are 100% better endowed in that area than she is and you now believe it represents 89% of what is required to vault high, your PB should be much much better than hers. Is that the case? ;)

Altius - I jumped 5.10 last year, almost coaching myself, and that was with no technique whatsoever, so ill guess I've got a good 11% improvement coming now I'm getting some top coaching (and top advice from internationally reknowned authors).

Also, I feel that now having hit puberty my 89% area may be growing, which should lead to even more improvement.

Problem is - It is difficult to run very fast with bandy legs and that may present a problem if you continue to develop. Still you could have the whole lot removed I suppose - but that would take away 89% of your potential. You have got a dilemma.

But then, providing the Samson effect doesnt kick in, could I not qualify for the womens vault, displace Isinbayeva as world number one and collect a healthy pay pack?

Although on second thoughts, would i be likely to get any sponsorship as a cross-gender vaulter? And would I be allowed to vault without bringing the sport into disrepute?

An interesting philosophical argument we now find ourselves in, though all based on the premise that I would be able to separate myself from little Paul, a concept which I find too painful even to think about.
