McCorkel 17-3 at Simplot Games

Unread postby BHSCoach » Sat Feb 18, 2006 7:30 pm

Just got off the phone with Spencer's Dad....McCorkel won with a 17-3 clearance. Scott Roth and one other vaulter cleared 16-9. Spencer had some really good attempts at 17-7 but just missed. I'm sure there will be more details soon.
If you expect success or you expect failure, either way you will probably be right.

i feel kinda bad for scott roth, and myself for only seeing his videos and missing 17'7 and 17'3 just barely, but spencer really had a good day, im glad that he had a good national meet that time as he said in his interview having fun is the key cause he had only cleared the first heights in the others, once again good for him.

I talked to him and his coach afterward and they said that he was on 14'9" (not sure of flex or weight ratings) poles up until his atempts at 17'7" when he grabbed a 15' 180 or 185. Plus he is only a whopping 130lbs. Very impressive and fun to watch. That kid has some serious talent.

Roth looked best in the warm up, then had a few good makes with the standards at 45 and 50 (16'3", 16'9") then WENT UP POLES!!! at 17'3" and got rejected, than through, went down poles with standards on 45 and still came down on the bar. Might want to rethink the game plan a bit. That was the first time I had seen him jump, also very impressive, looks like he could take cracks at 18' very soon.
