The double leg swing up...bad or...

Unread postby Ali~PVC » Sun Jun 05, 2005 12:45 am

Well, I hurt my hip in some way during this season, and I have totally lost my drive knee, which wasn't half bad. So, I have developed a double leg swing up and I would really like to know if that could be a good thing...or at least not that bad of a thing...so, any help, stories, suggestions, anything would be much appreciated.

Yarr...my coach calls this the SD double jump...fong, you're right, he says it does look pretty strange....

But sorry, he discourages using it. I'm not sure why, but I was always told it was a bad thing.

The issue of the 'double leg swing' is dealt with on page 153 of the book "Beginner to Bubka"..

Well the knee drive and the act of driving up puts the most power into the ground which converts into having a more powerful take off. After the point when this has happened some people tend to drop it in order to try and keep the hips behind the pole and to penetrate, then bring it back up in the inversion phase. But from what I've learned, not having a good knee drive creates a lot of energy loss which wouldn't be gained (probably more lost) by an ineffective double leg swing.

It is real real bad - kills pole speed and you lose the energy input you could get from a whipping swing of the left leg. - you must change it.

knee drive

If you are focusing on driving you knee you are focusing on the wrong thing. Try this! Take on step with your right foot (right handed) and jump as high as you can off your left! what does your right knee do when you do this?? focus on driving your hands up and forward with your foot! Jump straight up at take off!
