AUSTIN, Texas Clifton's Hali Henderson of Clifton has made a habit of winning titles and smashing records at the U-I-L state meet in Austin.
Henderson won her third Class Two-A girls pole vault title today with a record mark of eleven feet, seven inches. Sunni Wells of Eastland was second at eleven feet even.

She missed her first try today at a personal-best eleven feet seven inches. Then, she cleared the bar on the second and pumped her fists when she hit the landing mat.
Henderson missed three attempts at 12 feet. The state record for all classes is 12 feet nine inches. Henderson will attend Texas A-and-M on a track scholarship.

Bonham pole vaulter wins State Championship
By Allen Rich

Bonham senior Wade Hayes left them something to remember him by in Austin...his name on the Class 3A State Championship Pole Vault Trophy.
Bonham's last state track and field championship came in 1989 when Rob Wiggins won the high jump title.
Four vaulters had cleared 15' 6' at the state meet Friday, before Hayes reached deep inside for a little extra and got over the bar at 15' 9" for the title. An exhuberant Bonham head track coach Larry McFarlin said by phone from Austin that Hayes almost cleared 16 feet on his final high school vault.
Wade recently signed to compete collegiately with the nationally-recognized UTA track program.
There were some tough days along the way, including a regional meet with miserable weather, but Hayes was determined to qualify for state and keep a promise to a friend. Wade eventually placed second in regionals and advanced to state. It was going to take more than a little wind and rain to stop the vaulter wearing a T-shirt with Justin Owen's name across the back.
That T-shirt probably made the trip to Austin, too, and now it can go in a special place...near a state championship trophy.

AUSTIN McKinney junior Britany Parker put her name in the record book in her first state meet.
Parker's pole vault of 13 feet, 3 inches in Class 4-A won the state title and smashed the state record for all classifications, breaking the previous mark of 12-9 set last year by Buda Hays' Britni Lawrence.
Parker, who didn't even qualify for state last year, came in with the best qualifying mark at 12-6. After an opening vault of 12-0, she had the meet won with her second at 12-6.
Parker then moved the bar to 13-0 and missed twice before barely clearing it on her third try.
Not satisfied with the state title and record, she pushed the bar up another 3 inches and easily cleared that height as well.
Parker finally bowed out with three misses at 13-6 and picked herself off the landing mat to a standing ovation from the crowd.
Her 13-3 stands as the fourth best high school mark in the country this year, according to Track and Field News.
