i was curious about the rasising increments of the bar
because i know we raise by 6'' and no one ever vaults
past 11 in our duel meets but a kid from west milford
told me once you go past 12 feet that you can raise it
by 3 inches....anyone know the deal?

in my high school days we usually went 6" no matter what height it was. If you are going up 6" throughout the meet, then you must stick with that increment, unless there is only a couple of you left. In this case depending on meet judgement, you may go at whatever the agreed height.
example- Only 2 vaulters are left. you both made 14'6", and your school record is 14'10" and you want to go 14'11". If agreed by both athletest, you MAY be able to go to that height.
if you won the competition already, you can decide the height you want to go to.
i'm not sure the exact rules in the rule-book, but those have been my experiences

The bar in high school meets is generally gonna go up at 6 inch increments. Gunther probably says that you can go up by 3 inches after that because if you are the last vaulter left with no one else competing, then you can put the bar at whatever you want. But with multiple competitors in the meet the bar is going to stay increasing at the same increment.

The height increments are set by the "games committe", which in most cases is the host school. There are no set rules as to what you have to raise the bar each time. I stick to 6" unless some kid begs and pleads to set a school record or something, then i'll go 3" for one height only. Some larger meets (invites and tournaments), start at 6" and then go to 3" at say 14' or so. Again this is determined by the event organizers before the meet.

yeah, another thing...whatever the official says at the beginning are the increments, they cannot change their mind during the competition...example...the competition is going in 6" increments, but its getting late, and there's a lot of vaulters left, so the official decides to now move in foot increments to speed up the meet....not allowed...
i vaulted in a meet once where we went in foot increments from 6 to 8, then 6 " after that...but that was stated at the beginning, so everyone knew...

Do u hate kids who ask for 1/4", cause i did that so i could have the best jump in maryland last year. The offical looked at me like i was joking, but i told him what it was for, he looked at me in disbeliefe, raised it a 1/4. they my next jump i asked for 14, and he wasn't to happy when i cleared it.

i understand raising it by 1/4" for a record...but just going up in 1/4" increments would be kinda pointless i think. would the official have to measure it every time?? cuz otherwise it would probably be pretty inaccurate, i would think...

Yuppers!
Yeh a kid won the State track meet gold metal last year by 1/4" lol! In South Dakota regular meets mostly follow the same standards as the state meet! The bar will raise 6" every time! When there are 3 vaulters left the bar will raise 3" at a time. When you have declared a champion they can put the bar to whatever they want Lance
PM me if you know of any vaults around the Midwest!

Raising the bar
No matter what the meet is (HS of College) most games committees try to hit and qualifying marks, such as a regional mark or a mark needed to qualify for a district meet. In our case PA PIAA "Dist. I" I think the mark for guys (AAA) is 12'3" so if we were going up by 6" after 12' we would move up by 3".
