What state is the best?

Ohio is coming right along. Just recently, two kids out of Princeton High School alone have risen to 17+ in their first two years of college. Go coach Crump.

yeah ohio is making a statement. we have NO 17 foot high school vaulters. Our states HS best is 16'8" (jamie lewis--Newcomerstown). I guess were late bloomers. Tim Mack (cleveland St. Ignatius--U of Tenn) is from Ohio. Not to mention there are two up and comers out of Cincinnati. a 20 year old at 5.22 and a 19 year old at 5.35. Ohio is offically on the map.

Michigan could be an honarable mention state as far as alumnus are concerned

Indiana is also a really good vault state. TONS of 18 foot guys, especially in the 80s and 90's. Volz, Danny Burton, Bobby Shank, PVjunkie himself all come to mind. I know there is a whole lot more than these guys. Hell, Carrel might not even be from Indy....dont really know. Can anyone help me out?

Mark Buse (5.65) Indiana and Randy Miller (5.61) Purdue are other home grown Indiana Boys. I don't think Bryan in a native hoosier ,we just let him in to vault.

I have no expierence out side of Cali but we have some good vaulters, Scott Slover, Brian Macanerie, Steve Hardison (former 50+ world record holder), and Jim Davis (ex Fresno State).

Texas is notorius for tail winds...20+ mph winds ALWAYS consistently blowing in the same direction are common if not the norm.

Double nay to this post. Always wind?? Not even close. Yes we are known to get some good winds from time to time, but by no means is that the rule. Abiline, maybe. Although I have had more bad winds there then good. Last year in the great state we managed to get one tailwind out of 11-12 meets. I should also point out that the TX relays mens A division had a 5-10mph headwind with rain, and several TX guys jumped really well (myself included)

And in those conditions who cant jump 18-19 feet

who cares about wind, what about weather. for example it has been about 30 degrees in ohio since December. March 30 will probably be the first day near 70. In Texas im sure u get more chances to vault in better weather.

Houston weather has (in my opinion) the most unpredictable weather. One day it will be a great day, and if you dont check what the weather will be the next day. you might be surpised to find that it is all of the sudden 40 degrees and raining. When the day before it was a clear day, 70 degrees. This also probably goes for most of Texas also, except for some of the humidity in houston...man it gets nasty here, although the good days are mighty fine.

good association, but if read the whole post it discusses the wether patterns, as in hot or cold. believe me i'd take a 20 mph headwind or any other kind of wind in 70-80 degree weather, than little or no wind in 35-45 degree temp.
but weather really doesnt matter it can be blocked out, like anything else.

right on vaultn chris. We do get more days to jump outside than you guys do. Only drawback we have is the 10-12 days it drops below 40 each year, we cant jump! hahah. Actually I am a fellow northerner. I lived in tecumseh MI my entire life until about 5 years ago. I found that weather did suck up there, so I trained primarily indoors. It sucked when I had to go jump in the snow though.

Southern California. Not every good person is from here, nor do they all live here, but I bet more good vaulters jump in Southern California every year than anywhere else on the planet. You asked for weather, never heard of it, it is 74 degrees and sunny with a tail everyday all day long the whole year through. (Even at night.) Facilities? Yup, UCLA, UCSD, SDSU, Long Beach...ever heard of the OTC? Not that other states are bad, but, good wind, great weather (never ever humid), awesome facilities, incredible coaches, internationals coming out of our pockets, an 11 month season, and the SDSU girls team. Why would you jump anywhere else?
