Strange, strange problem.....

Unread postby ton » Mon Apr 18, 2005 6:09 pm

I've been having a very strange problem... my take off is alittle under, as it usually is, running alittle faster and jumping much better, but now when i do my swing up, I get stuck behind my top hand, so when i kick up, i hit my arm, kinda stall for a second, then let my pole fling me horizontally. any advice on fixing this? I do 'hop inverts' and i can do those very well, but it doesnt seem to translate into my full jumps, if anyone has ever encountered anything like this, please give me some tips.... this is really weird....

...ussually if you have a pretty good take off, the rest of your vault should follow naturally and easily....you said that your step was a bit under, but that could be an explanation why you're penetration and inversion are a little akward....how many lefts is your full run??? Can you do an OK vault, minus a left????

And you being flung horizontally, does that mean you're hitting the cross bar on the way up??? If so, you're either blowing through, or not jumping up enough into the vault..

i know what you mean, and my first thought was to check my steps because i figured i was stalling out from planting way under... but my steps were good, and i kept doing it( i take 6-8 lefts, usually 6) i mentioned that im alittle under because ive been doing that for years and ive gotten over 14 6 that way, but this is putting back to struggling over 13 6... ill have a video tomorrow, but right now i can try and explain (which im not too good at) i curl into a ball during my swing up, then i look back to get my shoulders to drop... and when i try to kick back up, i seem to be hitting my right hand(top hand) am i not pulling through the swing or something? im really outta ideas here

Yeah don't do that...

then i look back to get my shoulders to drop

Don't do that either :P

You could try working on keeping your trail leg long and looking at your top hand instead of throwing your head back.
