does anyone know any drills for getting vertical? also drills for keeping the trail leg back longer?

Never see 'getting vertical' in isolation. Getting into a good position on the pole as it recoils -which is when you should be 'getting vertical', is dependent on doing almost everything right in the preceding stages.
There is no drill in the world that can help you to get vertical - in safety - if you have made many mistakes in the preceding stages.
