Utah 4-A record is 16'.5 " Bobby Low. 2002 ( now at BYU ) Second highest all time vault of all school qualifications... THe first highest all time vault is Dixon Brown 16'1" ( about 1995 )

4A and 2A vault was dropped by the state a couple of years ago... and no girls vault in Utah. ( well they vault but it is not recognized)

There is no denying warmer weather helps alot !! No high schools have indoor facilities for vault here so they had to go jump at the colleges at night or weekends. HIstorically in Utah the best vaulters have come from the same schools over the years... The schools that have had an expert vault coach...

yeah i know, that was kinda just a random idea about the weather...i guess i'm just jealous because it's always so cold up north!!

New Jersey is 17'4.25" for guys (props Saraf) and 13'5" Danielle O'Reilly for girls. Someone told me once that the Jersey Indoor state record is 17'10" but i think that is higher than the current indoor national record, the guys name was billy lange. If anyone knows anything about this I would love to hear more about it.

ive got the Rhode Island state Records at 15'6"(im pretty sure they counted this one) outdoor and 15'9" indoor.

I agree that having an indoor facility helps, but good coaching is also a huge factor. you cant jump high without coaching. i didnt have an indoor facility to train in regularly. 90% of my practice time was at meets, but i had a really good coach.

I don't believe the weather is the key!! Typically you will see clusters of good vaulters in various areas around the country. These successes are indicators of good coaches and a strong community of vaulters. If the going South thing were true we'd all move to Key West!

i definately agree. the most good HS vaulters come from areas that have good coaching and a bunch of other good vaulters. after a while in these areas pole vaulting seems to become a tradition.

As stated good coaching is key, and it depends on what area you live in, some areas do have more competition than others, weather isn't really a factor if you are properly trained, I mean certain weather conditions are prefered and others aren't. Also I have to say, if you are lucky enough to get a good pole selection it really benefits you since then you can be prepared for all weather conditions.

bruce jumped in the 17's in hs. maybe it was in the summer but on the all time lists he is listed at like 17'2 or somethin

I dont think location or wearth matters taht much...I live in South Florida and our state record is 12'8 for girls by Lacey Janson and guys is 15'9.5 by Ben Dickens....all of them lower than the records in NY, NJ, and ILL. THe key seems ot be coaching and the community of vaulters...Suhr in NY, Jan Johnson and co in California, etc. (altho we have coach Bobby here in FL...:-)

The fact that Florida only counts state records that are set at the state meet plays a factor there as well...

Missouri only counts records set at the state meet. The actual state records (highest vault's) are higher than that and held by different people.
