When I was in HS, the first meet I ever competed in, the coach just told me to do a '3,' (a pop up) and then put my right foot over my left. I have heard some people call it 'spinning like michael jackson' too. 6 and a half years later I still have a hard time turning, while continuing to rise... but were working on it.. ;)

turning can be the hard part, but it helps to think about dropping your left shoulder if you're a righty, or right shoulder if you're a lefty, into the pole, which will automatically turn your shoulders and chest, and also thinking about turing your feet at the same time. You may have been told all of this before, but just something to think about! :)

I'm an interesting kind of vaulter, because some of the moves i pull in the vault aren't regulation, i do alot of torking and worming sometimes at meets due to the adreniline.....but at practice it looks ok  I just cross my left over my right and the rest of my body just naturally follows...

for me it's pretty natural. when I was trying to learn it though, I tried to get verticle and I pull. I also drive my knee and that does it for me.

inever really did anything to work on my turn, but the one thing that really helped was putting a bungee or bar up way above my PR and trying to get my feet over it. this naturally made me turn to get the most extension off the pole as i could.
