I don't want to throw a "wet blanket" on this party, but if it is raining the event should be moved indoors, if possible, or postponed until a dry day. Our event gets enough bad press we don't need an injury because of weather to give us more bad ink! JM .02

That's often not possible.

If it is not raining HARD, and there is no lightning, there is no reason not to have it, you just have to use some common sense and keep your grip DRY.

I jumped at a meet last weekend. It was not raining very hard, but a number of girls were complaining loudly that we should move the event inside.

We jumped outside and they lived.

Lightning...hehe, i love how the carbon poles say "do not use in the event of a lighting or electrical storm." Even if i was using a fiber glass pole, i would not be having a 14 foot lighting rod in my hand during a lighting storm, its so much better to just be on the top of a tree

My highschool PR was in rain conditions..the meet was rain delayed and everything was wet.

My former coach, Clark Humphreys, won 1997 NCAAs in the rain with a PR-equaling vault of 5.60m (18' 4.5") after having broken a pole for the first time in his life in warmups that day.

When he broke the pole, he was sent into a backflip and landed face-down on the mats. Everyone who saw it thought he wouldn't be able to leave the ground for the rest of the day. Talk about guts. Of course, it helps that he was crazy (and still is).

I'd just pray that the meet be postponed. We were supposed to have a meet today, but there was hail over there yesturday. Today the wind was blowing at like 40 mph. instead we had a really sweet practice today.

lol i've jumped in the snowish/rain ONCE

Bad choice... I've slipped at the takeoff so i took off wayyyyy inside. I was stalling out and fell 12 feet into the box.... i kinda wasnt holding the pole.....

ever since then, i DO NOT vault in snow or rain... (from your normal grip and full run)

If it rains or something and its an important meet, I just go from 3/4 steps and vault. hehe

You wont slip or trip or fall of you are on your take off foot. Dont reach if you feel outside. Make sure your body is on the top of your jump foot. Also, i think one of the masters here already posted about it in another topic, but bring a weather pole. A pole you know you could jump on in your sleep. Just for security. A smaller lighter pole. Also, a tent or a canopy are really nice and coosy.
