People who complain about that on the board sound silly. People who really think it is old just stop coming.

Face it, this place is addictive :P

Coaches are definitly one of my biggest pet peeves, and by coaches, i mean ones who have no clue what they are talking about and/or try to coach me when they aren't my coach. mannn.. thats annoying..

and pretty much what everyone else said bothers me too....
Its not just about working hard.. its about thinking hard too.

yea, the pole prolly feels :crying: when getting all the blame. i have to say, the pole will  if handled improperly by people who exert "maddening" emotions into it. very silly and stupid! poles love caring pvers.

I'm sure this has probably been beaten to death, or maybe I missed this, but everyone keeps addressing practice Prs with bungees....what about practice Prs with bars? Yes, it is still practice, but a bar is more legitimate than a bungee to say the least. We practiced two days a week during the summer and I know a few kids who have jumped higher in the backyard (former coaches' backyard) than they ever did in a meet, however, they just finished high school and may not compete again. This situation makes stating PRs tricky...I guess I'm just trying to say that it can be more complicated in certain situations, but ultimately PRs do come down to the highest you have jumped in a meet.

If the PR isn't at a bonafide competition, it is not a PR. There's a big difference between being on during a legitimate competition and jumping a PR than deciding to put the bar up at a PR when you're on in practice.

I once took a shot at 20' feet in high school. The bar stayed up. That's all that matters right?

Peepers PV wrote:i know this is a common problem, but it really bothers me when i hear another athlete complaining about a poor performance because "they had to switch poles"

i've never understood that one. i know pole to pole they feel a little different, but you're a pole vaulter. you deal with poles- that's what you do...? i suppose this will remain a mystery to me...

the only time i ever complained about that was because i had to jump on three completely new poles that i had never jumped on before (the runway was fast and there was a killer tailwind). it was not cool because the poles felt awkward in my hand and i like to jump on the pole at least for once during practice before i feel somewhat comfortable with it at a meet.
