[quote="Peepers PV"]*coaches who tell their athletes to do exactly the WRONG thing.
meaning:
they're under = move in some
they get wicked stood up = bigger pole
they stall out hardcore = raise grip
or they'll fiddle with the standards instead of fixing run length or pole selection when those are really the problems.

I agree with pretty much everything you said Peepers. The only thing that might not be wrong, is telling them to move in if they're under. Yes, primarily if you're under and not overstriding, you move back. If you're overstriding/reaching like crazy though and taking off under, you need to move in and quicken your last 6 steps. Moving back in that situation would just intensify the problem.

o no, thanks for correcting me. that's true that sometimes it's in your head, but i'm talking about those kids who are basically planting in the box instead of at around 9' or so, and madly stuttering to get there.
this summer, i came to a meet halfway through warm-ups to help, and a kid slipped in the box during warm ups. he planted IN the box- with everything: pole, left foot, and eventually butt. luckily his pole flew out or he would have incurred some serious injuries. the coach helped him up, asked how he felt, and said to move his standards in when he started the meet ( )... that stuff happened all day.
i was just in shock. prob. the scariest meet of my life- only one person had ever vaulted before.

BUNGEE/PRACTICE "PR" is by far my #1. i just cant stand it at meets when people tell me they jumped 14' the other day in practice over a bungee (i.e. poked their toes over it), then open at 9 or something rediculously low and end up jumping like 10-6 and just say they had an off day..
What have you done today to get better?
