Keeping a PV Journal

It sounds like some people are interested in Pole Vault Journals...

I am going to make up a batch and see if anyone is interested in buying them. They will probably cost $8 or $9 bucks each (so $10ish if you want me to ship one to you). They're printed on cardstock so they're pretty durable. They should hold up for the whole season, if not longer, in your track bag.

I plan on including lots of pages for writing down the numbers on your vaults, jan Johnson's pole progression chart ( http://www.skyjumpers.com/articles/reli ... _chart.htm ), a list of problem problems and corrections that Kris made, and a few PR pages, so you can keep track of your PRs.

Anything else I should include? Any other categories I should add besides the ones I listed earlier in this thread?

Would you want the cover laminated or not? Right now we laminate the cover, but if I don't laminate, I can save $$.

Do you think you would want one?

How is the durability affected if they are not laminated as opposed to when they are laminated? Would we be able to get them before Christmas time? Sounds like a great idea.

They're a bit more durable when laminated and slightly water resistant. I think it would make the biggest difference in helping keep the corners from turning up. I'll look into how much extra the lamination costs, if it's not a big difference I'll probably laminate the front cover and maybe the front and back.

I am going to try and get them printed up this week, so I should have no problem getting them to people well before Christmas. If I sell some, I'll do another batch or two and bring them to Reno.

A page for addresses (including the owner's) would be nice and probably useful. Also a page with metric to imperial conversions would be really useful.

I probably am good with the setup I have, but if I were to buy one, I think a laminated cover or one printed with an aqueous coating would aid in durability.

Metric to Imperial conversions would be an excellent plus. Especially for any new college vaulter who is transitioning from the high school system...maybe cm to inch standard placements as well? lol This could be getting lengthy...just a suggestion.

Yeah I was thinking of having a place for name, school, and address on the inside of the front cover, in case they get lost. I'm not adding any extra pages for people to write down addresses though, they can get an address book for that

Metric to Imperial is a great idea. I won't put a complete list, just some of the more common ones, so people get an idea of about where the bar is.

the journal was a big part of my success at the Games. It takes all the thinking out of competing. I suggest using two different ones maybe one for practice and one for competitions..the numbers will be different! The things I keep track of are: Pole used with what grip at what height with what standard setting. After awhile, you will see that you use a certain standard setting at certain heights with a certain pole and grip. By process of elimination, you will find out what works best! You also have to be willing to adjust to it if conditions are unfavorable. The "X" factor at the Games was there had to be "dead" wind. If not, I would have to go with "plan B." I walked out to the track, saw that the wind sock was "dead," and it was nothing but "green light" from there!!! Trust the numbers and yourself!!!

that right there is the best info you can get. i have seen even in my recent practices that when you dont remember what run you use with each pole and the grip height that it can screw you up to the point of having a wasted day of run throughs and failed attempts to vault. I have had my share of these already and i find it is much easier to fix the probublem when you know what it is and can focous on just the probublema and not your grip and your run and what pole you are on. whew just some thoughts on all of this
