Spencer Stephen's, at NCAA East Regional's this year, planted late and right. He shot over at the top of the line UCS standards with the padded side. He pulled a Jackie Chan about 15ft off the ground and kicked off of the standard with both feet and landed back in the pit. The standard rocked so hard I thought it was going to fall. He was lucky, he could of ended up like Ray at NCAA's if the standard wasn't there. But then knowing Spencer he might have landed in the bleachers like Spiderman in a three point stance.

Ray Scotten's is still #2 for me, but it's close.

#1 was Gary Marburger from San Antonio Judson HS. He took off 2 feet out, drifted towards the right standard and grabbed hold of it to keep from crashing into it. When he let go of it, the bottom peg pierced his right bicep and ripped it off. He had a 7 hour reconstructive surgery later that day. Jumped 15' the next year as a senior.

esbachs wasn't quite the same, spences was absolutely crazy, like he was hauling at the right side quick.

but Rays is still the scariest ive ever seen. we were gonna video the bleacher where he landed, it was dented all up

ok where should i begin i haven't done anything harful....that much any who i was a practice one day in the begining of the season this past year and it was right after the first meet and i was starting to feel comfortabe around every one on the team and my two coaches were getting really cool so it was the week of the second meet and my new ucs pole had just come in and i was used to jumping on the pink pole (a 11' pacer) and i hatted the new ucs pole i mean hated it with a passion i was having trouble bending it i couldn't get up on the pole and i just kept falling back down on my butt literally i was just having a really off day and was so upset so my coach took me off to the side and i just boke down in tears (mind you i never cry in front of people) and i was getting to upset over nothing the next thing i knew a big humunguse snot bubble came right out of my nose and my coach saw it!!!!!!!!!! hes a young coach and a bid smart a** so he was like omg making this big scene out of it so he finnially started talking t me about my pole so i went back over to the pit to give it yet another shot i got up on the ucs 11'6'' pole and who would have though i rolled right off the mat onto the groung right on my head i just wanted to crawl in a ball and cry but all i could do was laugh i mean why not every one else was already

the only bad thing is now that ucs pole is now my very favorit pole

one time my pole broke and i somehow flew into the left standerd and broke it clean off.

At one meet, my friend from another school, named Stephen, and I were supposed to take first and second but both ended up no heighting. During the warm up jumps, Stephen got out of control on one jump and started towards the right standard. Before he could vault into the standard he pushed the standard out of his way and it almost landed on top of one of the officals. When the other officals were trying to push the standard back up, I started down the runway.

When i went to jump, I started to lean towards the left standard and moved it out of the way just as Stephen did just before me. The officals then had to quickly move to the other side of the pit and steady that standard before it fell over. Luckily no one got hurt badly and the other vaulters had a good laugh!

I had a pretty scary one but not actually all that painfull or crazy, one week b4 Reno last year, I pulled a besmer and tripped on my penultimate stride (stride before take off) yes somehow I still planted the pole, sending me and all my momentum striaght down towards the box, i bent the pole almost in half and ended up laying in the box with the pole bent thinking wow i should let go, at that exact moment the pole exploded it slapped me pretty good and i didnt have a shirt on so i had alot of fiberglass shards all over me it was pretty crazy, Coach attig to this day laughs about it becasue he duked behind out box when he saw it


But the worst I have ever seen is when Paul Genzic Of Air Force feel at one of our home meets I think it was the Adidas, but he was having trouble clearing 5.30 or 40 and so for his 3rd attempt he went up sticks he pulled up and finished his vault way in front of the pole and right in over the box and he came down right in it. never seen something that scary my Teamate Kelly Bowen dug her nails iinot my leg so hard it made me bleed. Paul spent lik 10 days in the hospital with reputrued this and broken thats all over very scary. It was nice to see him Vaulting again later that year outdoors at Regionals

That's why you should never let go of your pole if something goes wrong

You guys really should give a rating to these threads just like they do to movies....for example, a rating of NPVM for No Pole Vault Moms. My daughter is a beginning vaulter and I should not be reading this!
