Nick Buckfield looks like he will be the only vaulter from Great Britain in Athens.

Day One – Ecker wins to underline comeback

Another quality event was the men’s Pole Vault, in which another athlete continued to celebrate his own great comeback.

Danny Ecker with 5.70m won his first national title in his career, especially uplifting news after so many injury troubles.

“It was a very difficult competition, not only because of the difficult conditions, we were so close together and it was very exciting who would qualify for Athens", confirmed the son of the double-Olympic-Champion of 1972, Heide Ecker-Rosendahl.

Lars Börgeling was second and Tim Lobinger was third, with all men clearing 5.70m and separated on failures at previous heights.

For Tim Lobinger, 2003 World Indoor Champion it was a big relief, to qualify for Athens. "I have not had the best season until now and I know, and was very close to watching the Olympic Games on television."

Pole Vault:
1. Danny Ecker 5.70m
2. Lars Boergeling 5.70
3. Tim Lobinger 5.70

Pole Vault:
1. Carolin Hingst 4.50m
2. Silke Spiegelburg 4.40

Buckfield is selected and should be ready after his surgery - Tim Thomas who one their NC in awful weather and laid in the pit watching 565 fall off has one more meet to get A std. Zoe Brown has the B std but they want to see how she will jump in her last meet - she went 415 in the rain to win the women's National Crown (at 21 she has upside)

I believe another guy was selected over him for the Australian team. He was appealing. I'll try and dig up an article about it.
