Having been to both the Essx and Pacer factories I can tell you they design their sails differently based on different ideas about how a pole should work. I think the designs also change somewhat depending on length. Obviously a 12' pole won't have the same sale as a 5.20.

different designs with different companies makes sense to me, im just wondering about roller coaster shaped ones, etc. when i look at the poles ive got and try to trace the sail, all the edges are straight (not curvy) and i would imagine based on what they look like that most of them assume some form of trapezoid or triangle, even on an original Browning Silaflex Skypole that I have. maybe sometime ill strip the tape, lay a pole on the ground, slowly roll it and trace the sail designs, lengths, and figure it all out myself!

the rollarcoaster design might be a protype, and maybe I wan't supposed to say anything about it oops. I'm pretty sure that yellow catapoles had a semicircle sail piece. I've recieved my info from first hand viewing at the factory, and takling with pole makers, and elite athletes.
