Does Weather Matter?

poor unsuspecting souls that come to visit Texas in August will think they have vacationed in hell. 100 plus with 60 percent humidity. That's the central Texas area.

The worst part that people don't realize is that it doesn't cool off at night in Texas. It'll be 100 during the day and 85 at midnight. At least in most other parts of the country you get some relief when the sun goes down.

that is why i refered this question to high school vaulting, plus most colleges have indoor facilities to fight bad weather.

lots of interesting posts though. the reason that i referred to texas in the post was because people in illinois when i was in high school always talked about how that was a big advantage that they had. people pointed toware coaching as well and im sure that does play a major role.

But to answer the question of does weather matter? To me, Only in practice, I meets I can usually block it out, but not always like in Elmores post about the region meet.

you could figure out the affects (force) of wind; cross, head, tail, on your body and the pole, and then see if it matters.

Rain is a different story, if you can't hold on to the pole how do you vault.

Winter weather created a whole other season. INDOORS is that an effect.

If you can't train for what ever reason, too hot, cold, windy, wet, foggy, whatever, then you probably won't be as good of a vaulter as someone who does get to train.

If weather didn't matter so much why do we have different types of clothig for different weathers?

i think bad weather, for me, makes me concentrate more. i know that performance is not going to be better, but i don't let bad weather take license as an excuse for pving.

the heat really takes it out of me... I need nice a cool weather...like 60-70... but I do well regardless...it just sucks when you're sweating to death between jumps...

the Rain doesn't do much to me, as long as it's not raining hard...if I can manage to keep my hand grips dry during hte rain, then I'll be fine.

As for wind...depends on how strong it is, and which direction it's going in. lol

heck yeah weather sucks. weve had either rain/wind or snow at every meet but our last meet. which makes it just about impossible to grip the pole. and our last meet we had, it was 91 degrees, when its hot, the pole bends more. i was falling off of the back of the mat because my pole was bending too much. i set my standerds at 31, and i was still hitting it on the way up. i cant get a break. now my good pole cracked 2 days before leagues. now i have to use a 12'0'' pole, which i can barley get 12 feet on.
