Trivia question for all to ponder!

Unread postby Cpvault » Thu Apr 15, 2004 6:33 pm

This took place in an official USATF sactioned competition last weekend:

How did I make 4 bars, but only 2 heights in the competition?
Let's see if anyone knows the answer. I'll disclose for all in the next
couple of hours. Good luck!

It was a buy-a-jump meet at Seese's!

Actually, there's no rule that says you can't take an extra jump at the same height after clearing it if the bar has not already been raised.

Umm this has happened at a meet I have been to. You cleared 2 bars, they were on the wrong heighth, had to do it again, thus only clearing 2 heights. After re-reading that it sound confusing and wrong..oh well.

Tied for first and had a jump off.

One scenario:

15'00" o
15'06" o
16'00" xxx
JO 16'00" x
JO 15'09" x
JO 15'06" x
JO 15'03" x
JO 15'00" o
JO 15'03" x
JO 15'00" o to win

Man, you guys are pretty good. But, I think monopoly00 just about had it right. My question is mainly an inlet for my rant. I don't usually dog official's, because I think it really is a thankless job most of the time. But, the particular official we had was terrible. In fact, I don't think he really wanted to be there. The bar was not being raised because he would not get out of his chair between heights to check. So, the poor girls working the pit really didn't know when to raise the bar. Maybe this happening once is excusable, but 2 heights in a row is rediculous. That probably wasn't the worst part though. The guy never once looked at any vaulter on the runway. He would sit in his chair, call the vaulters name, then start his watch. He then proceeded to call out in a loud voice, 30 seconds, 15 seconds, or time. The only problem was (this happened to me 3 times) he didn't care if you were in the middle of your approach, the guy would yell the time. To say the least, he made it very difficult to compete. Most official's I've come across while vaulting are very good; this guy stunk and should stick to timing or something.

Sometimes the officials in Boise will yell out the time when you're half way down the runway. They also gave us (NCAA athletes) a lecture on how imporatant the wind rule is. INDOORS?
"spandex they're a privlage not a right!"
