Limited pit usage

Unread postby Ins0mnizac » Mon Mar 15, 2004 11:11 pm

Ok so i dont have to much time to work with a pit with the weather in NY. I was wondering what you guys think is the best thing to do to get better at PV without alot of Pit usage early this season. Drills, workouts, whatever.

my pers. fave is the wrestling room, i.e. rope swings and mats. hundreds of great drills can be done there. water vaulting, at an indoor pool, can also be great fun and good for training.....other suggestions?

Sand vaulting.

Run from really short, no more than 3 lefts, work on getting a good takeoff and seeing how far you can land in the sand.

I believe the USATF Pole Vault Manual describes this. You can download it for free at http://www.pvei.com/index.php?pagename=doc-techpro.php

We can't practice on our pits because the coach won't let us unless we have the PV coach there...and we don't have a PV coach. So I always spend my practices running laps with my pole (killer, I don't recommend it, it sucks!), TONS of ab work, push-ups, pole plants, plants on the track, accelerations, distance running, and attempted Bubkas (I can't do those...) to name a few. Theres a lot you can do without the pits and eventually, although you are not jumping, when you do start jumping you should do fine.
Hey is that a pole in your hand or are you just happy to see me?
