Unread postby RudiWhoop » Sat Apr 27, 2013 9:46 am

I have recently become a huge fan of sandpit vaulting, the only problem is I know only a few drills. Have tryied googling and youtubing it but didnt find much. Does anyone have any drills worth trying?

Here's 2 drills I've tried:

If you got the time to give some feedback on my technique that's fine too :)

These are great drills, and your technique is excellent. Raise your grip, and practice creating more space between you and the pole with your bottom arm. Get you bottom arm as extended as possible before you take off the ground. This will allow the bottom hand to move over your head instead of right into your forehead. Do the same thing when you move this drill over to the pit and swing on it. Look for the video of Bubka doing a 6 step straight pole on YouTube, and notice the position of his arms before he takes off, and where is left hand goes as a result.

CoachEric,
Is this the correct link?

of course this specific drill is not meant for the sand pit, simply the position of the hands/arms...

That's the one. A lot of vaulters learn this drill the wrong way because they want to rush to inversion by breaking the bottom arm right off the ground. If instead they focus on creating space with the bottom arm and then going elastic on the straight pole, they learn the feeling of swinging from the top hand and moving the pole with the swing.

And yes, don't swing in the sand pit. That could turn out badly. :)

Thanks for your tips. I have always had problems with my left arm. Im not really sure what to do with it. Im either; what we call "kissing" the pole, or im like blocking my arms and not able to get my left arm over my head and push through my shoulders. Heres a vid from todays practice:

Jagodin's from 3 lefts. The quality is very bad though, but you get an idea ;) :)
