Here are some important things you need to know about insurance:

If you don't have insurance for your event, GET IT. Most go through USATF sanctions. This advice is based on what USATF covers.

I STRONGLY recommend requiring all of your participants to have a current individual USATF membership.

The event insurance protects you and the other parties you name in case you get sued. It does not protect your participants.

If your participant has a USATF membership, they receive a certain level of medical coverage if they get hurt. If they break a pole and it hits someone and they sue the vaulter, the vaulter is only protected from the lawsuit if they are a USATF member.

If someone gets hurt at your event and it involves and ambulance ride or hospital trip or injury that they plan to file a claim for, you need to submit paperwork that you can get from USATF. It is easiest if you have the form printed in advance, much easier to fill out at the event. I will try to post the link later. When in doubt, fill out the paperwork.

If the pits are part of a facility, and they get damaged, there is up to $10,000 coverage for them. If you bring pits and any other equipment elsewhere, like at all beach/street vaults, the equipment is not covered. You can purchase a separate event directors policy to cover this.
