Agreed! They had the right idea with the men with 5.00, 5.15, 5.30, 5.40, 5.50, 5.55. Why would they do this to the women? You have 19 girls over 4.15 (most well over) and at that point you will already be going 5cm's. Makes absolutely no sense.

Yeah I posted on Twitter earlier... of the athletes in the meet, you have 6 men in the competition who have made 5.50 or better this season (the point at which they go 5cm) but on the women's side you have 19 who have 4.15 or better this season and THAT's when you're going 5cm??

I am not arguing that it is a good thing, because I I think it is too early to go to 5cm. However the men and women can not be easily compared. The difference in the minimum height required to make the meet and the best athletes PR is a lot great in the men's.

It took 5.27 to make it on the men's side with the best guy in the field being at 5.53m. Which is only a 25cm difference. While The women's side it took 4.10 compared to 4.55 best in the field, which is a 45cm difference. Because their are more men within say 10cm of the top mark than the women, it makes since for them to get to the higher heights sooner. This just kind of screws over the top two or three women and turns it into an endurance race. But it is the same way for the girls going for world records at international meets. As Surh would say, they have to go through the 'meat grinder'. While women have improved in the sport at a rapid rate, they are still newer to it in reference to the men, so it only makes since that the top is not as stacked at the top heights.

Your argument only highlights the inequality between the two groups. In a competition where the entrants are tightly bunched together, it makes sense to go smaller increments sooner. In a competition where the entrants are more spaced out, it makes sense to introduce the smaller increments later in the competition. The exact opposite happened here.

I was just trying to make an argument that there would probably be more women going out at the middle bars, so this way it gives them more bars to jump. However it all appears completely random to me as the girls are starting 15cm under the lowest mark it took to qualify while the guys are starting 27cm under the lowest mark it took to qualify. So the guys would need bigger spacing to get to everyone's PR. However, I have no clue why they would give the guys so much easier of an entry height, in respect to what they jump, than the women.

The men have 6 bars between opening height and equalling the outdoor season best of the highest entrant. The women will have 11 bars between these two points.
