Late turn
This year my PR has went up 3 1/2'! From 10' to 13'6 just from improving my run, plant, and takeoff techniques a tad allowing me to invert. But i still have yet to drop my shoulders completely and i also have a late turn. I have already successfully junped 8" over my handgrip. Jumping 13'6 with a 13'4 grip. But if i go over the crossbar with my side. If i was already turned going over it that would be another 6" easy. And if i would completely drop my shoulders probably another 6"! Doing these two things i have found hard though. Any drills that can help me with these two things? Or pretty much just more of a focus on them? I used to bar lock and watch my feet when trying to invert. But by simply just focusing on not doing that and losing my sight on the bar and my feet i have gotten inverted. Just not quite as much as i have the potential for. And also the late turn causes my feet to drop sooner than they would if i was turned sooner?

Re: Late turn
I think you have to update your Lifetime Best then in your description! Nice PR and progress!
The most recent video you have on youtube (11'6" comparison) is all I have to go by... Do you have any more recent footage?
If there are serious problems in a phase in the vault, it's usually because there were minor problems in the phase before it... So to help with you inversion I would suggest working on your swing. Do you have access to a high-bar? A rope might even suffice for a while... And a sand pit?

Re: Late turn
I do have more recent video. However i am in kentucky on a trip til tuesday. I will get the video uploaded tuesday sometime. I have homeade olympic rings i use. There is also a sandpit at the school. I have gotten alot better at dropping my shoulders but im not quite all the way there yet. Also i did noticed one thing that i need to work on. That is my pole drop to plant. Instead of bringing it straight up through my ear and up i bring it up behind me. You can better see this in the video. I will post it on here when i get home.

Ah, so you are experiencing this oppressive weather as well!
Rings are better than rope... but high bar is still the best. No chance you could get access to one or anything like one? No playgrounds or anything around you?
I'll be waiting for your video.

Re: Late turn
What I have found successful with turning technique is to vault from shorter runs with a softer pole. This slows the process down allowing one to feel the movement through the vault. And, although we practice "phases" of the vault, when one vaults for height competitively, there are no phases; only continued movement. From the first step to clearing and landing in the pit, the vaulter should never stop moving. Those "phases" we practice should connect in a very fast, continuous manner. Study and learn proper technique for turning and practice in an environment that lets you slow it down to develop the skill. The attached photo of a high school vaulter turning was developed with numerous short run approaches on a soft pole.

A very sad statement - it is very difficult to optimise your talent in the vault without access to a high bar.
Its what you learn after you know it all that counts. John Wooden
