Irwin 5.72m (18'09.25") SEC's (video)

Unread postby AVC Coach » Sun May 13, 2012 8:07 pm

Freshman Razorback, Andrew Irwin, does it again. PR's twice with 5.62 and 5.72! I'm at a loss for words right now, but I know I couldn't be more proud of him! Great competition lead by a couple of freshman!

Always great to see athletes progress when they have been given a great base to build on by their first coach.

So good to see a fourth athlete over the Olympic Games A standard!

That's also a USA Junior National Record.

I am not surprised that Andrew has jumped this high...he is nailing a 14' takeoff at age 19!

Great job by Andrew, Morry Sanders, (and Andrew's dad...also his coach, right?) , and Bryan Compton at Arkansas. You guys are doing it right! Maybe the US can score more than one medal in London!

Thanks, Alan and Tom! His dad, Steve, and I have coached him since he started tagging along to practice with his older sister, Stephanie. I think he was in 5th grade when he first got on the runway. Doug Case is the man now! He has done an outstanding job with Andrew! Travis Geopfert and Bryan Compton have had a lot to do with it as well. I couldn't be more pleased! Being an Arkansas State University graduate, it's kinda wierd to yell "woo pig sooie" but I don't care! Go Hogs!

Unfortunately this makes me wonder what has happened to Jack Whitt. When i saw him working with Tim McMichael at the age of 18 I thought he would rapidly break through to 5.70/5.80. Has he been injured?

5m - 14.7 for most. 14.3 for the 5.72 jump.

He has been battling a shoulder injury all year. Trying to get thru the season then make a decision on treatment. Left arm. He will be back.
