pole vault practice
Whats going on PVP. I have a simple question for you guys/girls. Im a high school vaulter and Pole vaulting really beats me up lol. idk y or how but it just does. my hips are always hurting. i think its my hip flexor and alot of other muscles just feel like there being strained and are always sore. iv talked to a trainer and iv been doing what he has told me to do it hasnt really helped much but o well. now i dont want advice on how to fix my soreness or anything like that im just going to deal with it. now my question would be all these body problems makes it so i cant take full vaults in practice. i have been going from short runs and working on the top end of my vault and ill do drills to help my plant and takeoff. so is this ok that i dont take full vaults in practice? it doesnt really seem to affect me at the meets. i dont have problems getting my full vault steps on or anything so it doesnt seem like a problem i just wanted all your guys opiniosns

If you're sore all of the time, you probably need to rest more, vault less in practice (you should NOT be jumping every day), eat better, run with better mechanics, and see a chiropractor.

Agree with Becca, though I am not a fan of chiropractors. Constant soreness or pain is either a symptom of inadequate rest between training sessions and poor recovery. Food and rest plays a crucial role, and should be evaluated, if you train a lot.
Pain could indicate an injury waiting to happen, and maybe it already has happened (see a physiotherapist). Or maybe your body is not fit to vault as much as you do?
My advice: If you experience soreness or pain, don't vault from anything that resembles a full vault. Do technical groundwork instead and short run drills. Work on core stability constantly. A weak core will pull your body out of alignment when you vault, due to the forces involved. Yes, it's OK not to go from full steps in every practice, but the pain and soreness should not be ignored. Fixing whatever is causing the pain, should be a priority, so you are able to vault from whatever is a full run-up for that period, at least once a week.

Well my training took a look did some tests and such and he came to the conclusion i need stretch more and iv been trying that it hasnt seemed to help so i talked to him again but he came to the same conclusion so idk lol i just kinda deal with it now. During meets i just kinda push it oura my head and take my vault

well after a while each season my left knee and shin start hurting, so i stop vaulting as often and do more drills, after i give it 2 or 3 full days of rest its back up to 100% and i'm good to go for a meet, however my back and occasionally my neck get sore and thats easy..... i always take off under and it takes a tole on my back, for the record i plan on fixing these problems over the summer, getting my step on and condition my legs better. for you just a guess but you may be taking off under i know it has been a bad problem of mine that creates soreness each season

thanks for the incite. ya im not sure that good be it but its gotta stop lol its just everysingle day im soooo sore lol to sore to even take a full vault haha
