Attach each end to the front of a Mack truck and have them drive slowly towards each other - you should get as much bend as you want.

Grip higher. Run faster. Vault better?

You should try using the search function. Top right corner of the message board. You can't expect serious responses to a question like that (especially from world class coaches like altius).

And if you're in high school, you need to be on a 160 pound pole.

Do you want to bend the pole more or do you want to pole vault higher? They are not the same thing.

rainbowgirl, i want to vault higher, but i thought getting more bend out of the pole had a direct effect on the height of the vault? Do you want me to send you a recent video of my vault?

Posting video is always helpful. You said in your other post that you keep landing on top of the bar. You are probably holding too high. You need to learn how to pole vault with a non-bending pole first, so you can learn how to have proper technique. When you learn this, you'll be able to bend a LEGAL pole for your body weight and jump higher than your handgrip. It doesn't happen overnight though.

Watch this video for good drills to do and to understand the pole vault better: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 0052593028

hi there artesia. After watching your video your plant is late, which is causing you to be under, and you are pulling. I think you need to do a lot of pole runs and then progress from pole runs on the track to pole runs using a sliding box (I think any level of vaulter should be doing this). I am a huge believer in the approach and take-off.If a vaulter cant do this right how will they be able to do the rest of the vault correctly? If I could go back to high school I would spend my high school years doing a lot of drills and a lot of pole runs, and vaulting only twice a week instead of everyday. I vaulted way to much in high school and developed bad habits which I am just now really starting to break (3 years later). I think if you fix your approach to where you are taking off outside and your hands are on, that pole you are on will actually be to short. Keep up the training and keep posting videos!

thanks polevaulter2012! its very helpful to get other criticism on my vault considering i only have a coach one day out of the week. my plant is my biggest problem but i noticed how my plant was very late. My friend and fellow vaulter informed me about a practice technique using a towel at my plant point, making myself jump and plant out. i also need to stay more extended in my vault. im going to do alot of plant drills this practice and build better habits rather than taking up a lot of vaults during practice. thank you very much.

Hey no problem!! Just think of being tall in your run and take-off. Everything up! Keep us posted.

ive also been having other problems when vaulting with a bar. i made a similar post earlier and i tried the methods i was told in practice. i used the bar during practice but i continued to knock it down on my decent with my feet. i pput the bar at 9'6" right after getting over the bungie at near 11'. what else can i do to fix this? i can't stop knocking the bar down. is it due to the fact that im focused on the bar instead of the vault? so annoying! thanks for any imput :D

Drop your grip a fist at a time and put the bar at a lower height until you are clearing it. Once you are clearing the bar, slowly raise the bar (not your grip) until you are hitting off the bar on the way up (and the standards are all the way back). Once you are knocking off the bar on the way up, raise your grip 2" at a time. Don't raise your grip again until you hit the bar off on the way up and are landing deep in the pit.
